Jobs and Schools for Youth Decatur, Decatur Catholic, Monmouth and Adams Central will graduate some 200 of the 2,750,000 American youths who will complete their public education thig year. Some have or will drop out without finishing. The biggest decision any graduate will have is not whether to marry, or not or whether to enlist, or not. It is whether he should continue his education. Os those who live on a farm, two-thirds of the boys, and nearly two-thirds of the girl will take no vocational training or college work. Os those who live in Monroe or Preble or Pleasant Mills, or other small towns, more than 55% will not continue. In small cities like Decatur and and Berne, 51% will turn down higher education. From large cities like Fort Wayne, only 45% will fail to continue their education. The choice of education or not will be reflected in jobs, too. From the farm, only 24% of the boys will become professionals or executives. From the small towns, this will be 34% ; from cities like Decatur, 44%; .and from cities like Fort Wayne, 56%. Only about one out of four will remain on the farm out of this class of farm youth. More than a third will go into factory work - *dHHi Now, when you are in high school (or even before), is the time to think about what you want. This is America. If you really want an education, tell your family, friends, teachers, and advisors now. Work for it. It can be yours. Yes, when you are a young man, the future is yours. You can be what you want. But only for a moment. You must make a firm choice. Don’t drop the pearl of education for the bright glimmer of other momentary attractions. If you can get an education, and a good, rewarding job that you like, you will have the spare time to develop your personality, to find yourself and your philosophy. Your life will be a wonderful thing for you. Choose education. Learning isn’t the only answer — but it will give you the tools you need to make the important decisions. Expansions. Experience and learning are your main ways of making decisions. Don’t leave your life to chance. Ships without a navigator just don’t make it into port. Be a smart navigator, an educated one.
