O 0 Commends “Boktaesa” To the Editor; I wish to commend you for your “boldness” in expressing a viewpoint in the public press on a very “untouchable’’ subject, religion and God, one of the tWo things most people refuse to “argue” they say. No one of course should argue about religion, but we are exhorted by God to use our powers of reasoning in order to have our sins blotted out “Come now, let us reason together,” said Jehovah,” though Four sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as SCHOOL REPORTER (Continued From Page Two-A) ed out to be a good one for the Wildcat basketball team. mow.” In Luke’s Acts of the Apostles, he says of Paul: “Nbw when they had passed through Amphipolis and ApoUonla, they came to Thessatonfca, where was a synagogue of the Jews, and Paul aS his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbaths reasoned with them out of the Scriptures.” But how many people are reasonable on religion and can be reasoned with ? No, not even out of the Scriptures. In Jesus’ words we see why Jehovah God wants us to come and reason with him "true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” To be a true worshipper we have to worship according to the truth, and that Jesus said of God; “Thy Word is truth.” That would call upon our powers of reasoning wouldn’t it? By reasoning with Jehovah God, does that mean we are endeavoring to get him to see our viewpoint, or are we his? Is it our will, or his, we are supposed to do that our sins will become as white as snow? No, eels-will or self-righteousness will never save us from our sinful state as the offspring of stoner Adam. Listen to what Paul had to say concerning Israel: I bear them witness that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” Lacking true knowledge of God they were not true worshippers who must submit themselves to the righteousness of God, as it is written for their instructions for such, and I quote Paul again, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, That the man of God may be fully competen and completely equipped for every good work.” Long before this, Jehovah spoke of their willful ignorance of Him, through his prophet Hosea “Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee.” In fact these self-willed self-right-eous people, not only rejected knowledge of Jehovah God, as revealed to them to his Holy Word, but they also rejected His Sori’ Christ Jesus, as the long prophesied of Messiah. Too bad, for accurate knowledge of these “Two,” Father and Son, could have meant for them everlasting life in God’s new world, according to the Son in prayer to His heavenly Father Jehovah: “And this is life eternal, their taking in knowledge of you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.” Acting upon an accurate and true knowledge of Jehovah the most High God over all the earth, gained by reasoning with Him out of the Holy Scriptures, changes our former way of life if we submit ourselves to his instructions for righteousness. As another bad example* let us consitjpr the instance of the “unconverted” Gala-

tians, Paul again doing the reproving :’*How then, when you knew not God, you did service to them which” hue nature” are no gods. But now, after you have known God, or rather are known of God, you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto you desire again to be in bondage? You observe days, and months, arid times and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labor in vain.” Learning the truth about God had delivered them from bondage to a system of things in their former way of life as Gentiles, no doubt according to the philosophers, vain deceits and traditions of men, Paul warned the converted Colossians against. They obviously failed to take instructions from God’s holy Word and abide by it. Perhaps like Demas they loved this “present evil world’” too much, and their former state of enslavement to it The Jews in bondage to the Mosaic Law instituted by Jehovah God with their forefathers, the Israelites, unreasonably retorted to Jesus "We are Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man," after he had told them “If you continue to my word, then are you my disciples indeed, And you shall know the truth and the. truth shall make you free.” Proving they did not know the God they professed to worship, to whom Paul’s words were so aptly applicable: “They profess that they know God but in works they deny him.” If the Jews did not know God, to whom he had given his sacred oracles (The Hebrew and Aramaic Scriptures) how my ch less the Gentile world which” he had suffered to walk in their own ways.” That is, “according to the philosophies, vain deceits and traditions of men, according to the “week and beggarly elementary things of the world.” Ending his prayer to Jehovah that last night with his Apostles, Jesus said the world did not know God: “O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee; But I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me, and I have declared unto them thy name, and will “declare It.” Strange words if Jehovah and Jesus are one and the same God, “according to popular trinitarian doctrine of Christendom,” don’t you think? The ignorance of the idolatrous Athenians, who built massive temples, according to the customs of their polytheistic worship, were informed by Paul concerning the one and only true God, Jehovah, “the God that made the heavens and the earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands,” neither is Worshipped with men’s hands. How much less then to the secular system of this elementary world, of which schools of learning are an integral part. Ignorance of Jehovah, the “God Most High” (Ps. 83:18) causes many false beliefs about him. One that he is a nationalistic God. That is not true. The truth is, when Jehovah, the God of the

Hebrews turned his attention from the Jews to the Gentile nations after Jesus’ return to him in heaven, Scripture says that he turned “visited” them” not as their God” but “Tb take out of them a people for his name,” Thus Peter, who Jehovah sent to the household of Cornelius with the gospel of the Kingdom of God, acknowledged that God is no respector of persons; but in every nation he that feareth him and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.” Jehovah is no longer “the God of the Hebrews” nor is he the God of the Gentile world. He is not” the god of this world that blinds toe minds of men that believe not, lest the light (truth) of the glorious gospel of the Ghrist (who is the image of God) should shine (be revealed) unto them.” No, he is the God of those to every nation that fears him, and works righteousness. People whom he is taking out for his name, if acceptable to him. The commandment given by him to the Isralites, whom he separated” from the nations and their gods” is applicable to them also, according to a former false worshipper, Paul: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate,” saith Jehovah,” and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto You, and ye shall be my sons and daughters,” saith Jehovah (God Almighty). Should not the “adopted” children of God, be known by his name, and make it known? In fulfillment of this word” that does not go back to him void, without accomplishing that which He Jehovah’s adopted sons and daughters do that which is pleasing to their heavenly “Father” in fulfillment of that very word: “Behold, God is my salvation: I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song, and in that day shall ye say, Praise Jehovah, call upon his name, declare his doings among toe people, make mention that his name is exalted.” Is that not what his son, Christ Jesus did? Made known the name of his God and Father to his Jewish disciples? Would this not be doing the works of righteousness acceptable to Him? Also the truthful declaring of his doings among the people? Yes. it was by the declaring or making known the outworkings of Jehovah’s will on earth to be with his Son, Christ Jesus, To unbelieving Jews who did not know Jehovah their God, even by name, Jesus said: “I told you, and ye believed not; the works that I do in the name of my Father, they bear witness of me.” His works were in harmoney with and in fulfillment of his Father’s true words of proprecy for that particular time to history: In Jesus fulfilled some 322 such prophecies, fortold by the author of Holy Scripture, Jehovah. Yes, his righteous works bore witness of him, that he was the Son of God, sent forth to do those very works. “Preach the gospels of the Kingdom of God. Heal the brokenhearted. Preach deliverance to the “captives”. Open the eyes of the “blind.” To set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of Jehovah. Also to give my life a ransom for many”. All these did he do. in the name of Jehovah his “God and Father.” He was a Jehovah’s Witness, in word and to deed. God’s revelation of things yet to come, given through the mediator Christ Jesus to John on the Isle of Patmos, termed him as the “faithful and true witness.” Since by both word and deed Jesus proved himself to be a faithful and true witness of Jehovah. the God most High, does it not follow his disciples must be also? Yes, they too must bear witness to the doings of Jehovah God, and make mention that his name is exalted. On the doctrine of the resurrection of the dead, the Apostle Paul wrote to those in Corinth, Greece: “Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, why say some of

you there Is no resurrection of the i dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is i not risen — Yes, and we ate i found" false witnesses of God,” < because we have testified of God i that He rasied up Christ.” < Ascribing to God, the works of I the Devil, is bearing false witness < against God, the one unpardonable sin, according to that true < and faithful witness, Jesus Christ” 1 whosoever speaketh a word 1 against the Son of man (Jesus 1 himself) it shall be forgiven i him; but whosoever shall speak 1 against the Holy Spirit, it shall 1 not be forgiven him, neither in this world” nor in "the world 1 to oome." Do not these very words of Je- ' bus condem the teachers of the i trinitarian doctrine, who bias- 1 pheme against the Most High God, < saying he was God manifest in : the flesh? If true, would not blasphemy against the one be as unforgivable as the other? Are they not bearing false witness against God, who is holy Spirit, the Spirit he poured out upon Jesus anointing him to the witness work? ‘ The man in every nation that fears Jehovah God and works his righteousness, to be acceptable to him (by adoption, not by birth) must truthfully declare his doings among the people, as foretold in prophecy, and make known his name that it is exalted. In our time, there is a people in hte earth “out of every language of the nations” that are truthfully declaring his doings, pointing to his prophetic Word for such. In the following prophecy they are shown to be taking instructions from Him for righteousness, as ft is written: “And it shall come to pass in the last days that the mountam of Jehovah’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills — and many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of Jacob (Israel); and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his path; for out of Zion shall go forth the Law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.” In view of this revelation about God and his doings in the last days is it not blasphemy against Him to preach and teach he is a nationalistic God, meaning he is the god of this world, who is blinding the minds of men to the glorious Kingdom gospel? In the light of Holy Scripture, we must decide, who are God’s true and faithful witnesses? Sincerely Yours, Mrs. Rita Goss Religion In Schools To the Editor: Mr. Heller, the messages that you have been sending out thru the press in “The Editorial” space on this most important subject of prayer and Bible reading in public schools, reminds me of the preacher, who preached from his text, and he got so far away from it, he never got back to it. ■ . «- In referring to this statement, I wish to cadi your attention to the fact, that from time to time you have injected into your three messages controversial subjects, in order to confuse the minds of readers, and after you had accomplished this feat, you darted out in all directions, with weak and unsound statements to nail down the points you tried to make, against Bible reading and prayer in public schools. Every Bible student, every minister of the Gospel, every school teacher, and every lawmaker are familiar with every statement that you have made against Bible reading and prayer in the public school and every good citizening realizes that you cannot solve a problem by running away from it, and we are also familiar with the fact, that the more difficult the problem, £ the greater will be the reward

upon tte solution. Therefore t am taking the position that you will bo reasonable enough, to agree to the undisputabte fact, that God will not take second place in an individual’s life or a public institution at elartalng, and whenever the leadership of man is substituted for the leadership of God by a process of law, which forbids Bible reading and prayer in schools, these institutions of learning have lost the real purpose for their existence, because “a house that God doest not build is built in vain. ” Therefore the sponsors of parochial schools have shouldered the burden, of paying the extra cost of supporting their schools, in erder that they can give God, his rightful place in the programs of their educational system, and no reasonable person will fault them for this wholesome plan. From this point of view it is no longer a question whether we should have prayer and Bible reading in Our public schools, but the main question is, are we willing to pay the price, in order to exercise this privilege. Oh! Yes, I remember you wrote “God is in our schools, because He Is being represented by the regenerated lives of scholars, who received their religious training in homes and churches.” I will admit that this is one admirable approach to the solving of problems existing in our school system, but you will also have to admit that this is putting the cart before the horse, and you should remember, that keeping God in our schools by this method, is quite different than putting God in first place at the head of our schools where he rightfully belongs. I realize that prayer and Bible reading in public schools, in some locations, was obsolete a long time before a judgment was made by the supreme court, and the following incident will prove the results. A teacher looked out over the school grounds, of a high school in a large city, he saw 12 of his students, formed in a circle down on their knees, with their heads bent low; being alarmed at this unusual position, he quietly sneaked upon them and he said, “Boys, what in the world are you doing here?” One of the boys looked up and said, “We are shooting crap.” “Oh,” replied the teacher, “I thought you were praying.” Now, according to your argument, had these boys been praying, their teacher would have been duty-bound, under the law, to have broken up the ordeal. Mr. Heller, let me kindly inform you, that whenever it is a greater violation of the law to pray on the school lawn, than it is to shoot crap, the backbone of our nation is already in pretty bad shape, and when you replace the wisdom of God, with the wisdom of man, all you will have left is a wishbone instead of a backbone, “For the wisdom of this world Is foolishness with God.” and the reports of juve- . nile delinquency in our daily papers, substantiates this view. Clear V* Stataoaewte To the Editor: I would like for this letter to be put in the paper to clear up some of the things I wrote about in my first letter. Redding your editorials I feel I was misunderstood on a few things. When I stated a few atheists were behind the prayer and Bible reading not being permitted in the schools, I did not mean that the government leaders are atheists, nor do I believe they are Communists. The people I had in mind were people not in the government, interviewed on TV who admitted they were atheists and were trying to push this law tooth and nail. One woman became quite popular for a time, because of her demands that this la* be passed. As to what I stated about us helping the Communists dig our graves—l did not mean I believe our government is Communists. I meant the more dUr nation lets go of the religious beliefs it was founded upon, the easier for Communists to infiltrate. Do you suppose they’re sad because this law is passed? I agree every child should know the Bible, there’s no excuse for it in a scientific age. But saying it doesn’t make it so. 1 agree religious beliefs and Bible should be taught in the homes, but is it? How can it be taught there when parents do not read the Bible, do not know the simple stories within its covers? One lady married to an American serviceman asked me why Good Friday was celebrated. aThe only way some children learn about God is through reading the Bible for themselves. It Is stated in the Bible, child shall lead them.” It has Wen known of children teaching the parents instead of the other way around. I still wonder why the Gideons were not allowed to put Bibles in the Decatur schodte. Again I I ask what harm it can do to have a Bible in the hands of a child? Bibles are given to school children in the fifth ©fade by the Gideons. At this age some, of the Bible caa be understood. Children are curious — it they don’t understand what is read, they wiH ask. The average little child, you said, would not be able to understand the King James Version. These children are learning and doing things in school that astonish parents. Ask some of the in telligent parents who hhve children in Decatur schools. Ever ■ have trouble with math problems i these days? rn ” 7 You stated emotion can be part of religion, but no substitate. I don’t belive you need to be afraid of too much emotion. It teems to be gone to make Way for space-age Christians. Top Candidates To Compete In State Primary By BUGEKB J. OADOU United Press International INDIANAPOLIS (UPI)-Pres-ident Johnson, Sen. B*tty M. Goldwater and other major presidential candidates ar* sure to compete in Indiana’s presidential preference primary, according to the politicos. Unless they do So, the Hoosier delegates to both the Democratic and Republican national conventions might be committed to splinter candidates on the first presidential ballot. The politicians point out that there always are publicity-seek-ing or cause-promoting presidential bidders in the Hoosier primary who have no hopes of winning and who only annoy the serious aspirants. If they are unchallenged, one of them is sure to sew up the Indiana delegations, which are bound on the first ballot only by terms of the primary law. Afterwards, the delegates are free to vote any way. Lesile Duvall, chairman of the Indiana Goldwater organization, has predicted that Goldwater will compete in the primary. Because of the Indiana weakness of Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, there is some doubt whether he will enter the primary. However, there is nothing in the Indiana law that requires consent of the candidate to have his name entered in the primary, according to Edwin Steers of the State Election Board. A number of 3rd District Re- , publican leaders are trying to persuade State Sen. D. Russell Bontrager at E&hart to switch from the senatorial to the congressional contest. They reason that Bontrager would be a cinch for the nomination and the strongest nominee to unseat Democratic Rep. John Brademas of South Bend. GOP prospects of carrying the district are the brightest in many years because Republicans carried South Bend, Elkhart, Laßorte, Michigan City, Mishawaka, Goshen and Plymouth in the mayor election last November. Bontrager to date has maintained that he is sticking to the senatorial nomination contest in which his opponents are Rep. Donal C. Brucfe, Indianapolis, mid former State Sen. Edgar D. Whitcomb, Seymour attorney. The 3rd District GOP contest became wide open when the 1962 nominee, Charles W. Ainlay, Goshen attorney; announced that business pressure will prevent him from running.
