Funds Allotted For Start On Toll Bridges INDIANAPOLIS (UPD — The way was clear today for the Indiana Toll Bridge Commission to begin land acquisition tor two new Ohio River toll bridges to be constructed at Mauckport and Cannelton. The State Budget Agency, made up of Governor Welsh and Budget Director Jack Booher, Wednesday allocated 2100,000 to the commission from the state’s cigarette tax fund for preliminary work on the bridges. Other projects for which fund transfers were approved included a 600-student vocational training school to be located in an unused state-owned building here. The Budget Agency transferred $285,000 in federal funds to the vocational education division of the State Department of Public Instruction to allow the start on the delayed manpower training project. Classes are expected to start in about 60 days in the building which has not been used since the departments which occupied it were moved to the State Office Building when it was completed. Plans originally called for the school to occupy three floors of the building and the basement. The State Budget Committee objected to this " plan which would have required expenditure of $120,000 in state funds. Hie plans were then revised to include two floors and the basement without spending any state money. The school will provide courses for persons who are out of work or seeking better jobs. A spokesman for the Toll Bridge Commission said the money transferred Wednesday would be used for land acquisition, to purchase the franchises of two ferries now operating at the bridge sites and for other expenses. He said the bridges probably will cost up to sl3 million with $6.5 million expected to come front, the cigarette fund and the rest- from a bond issue. c»r« Other cigarette fund expenditures approved were $12,825 for printing and mailing the State Conservation Department mag. azine “Outdoor Indiana,” $45,500 for improving conservation property, $91,075 to purchase land in Noble County for the Conservation Department and $20,110 for operating expenses of the Indiana Flood Control and Water Resources Commission. The Budget Agency allocated $111,940 to the Conservation Department tor 23 new enforcement officers. The allocation, in addition to funds tor salaries, includes $10,700 for new equipment and $43,560 for other operating expenses. In other action, Welsh and Booher: Transferred $1,385,000 from the postwar construction contingency fund to the Monroe Reservoir. Authorized Indiana State College to spend an additional $34,000 of its own funds for physical education facilities. Allocated $105,000 to the Con- . servation Department to buy hunting and fishing sites in Daviess County. Transferred $15,000 to the Indiana Securities Commission to allow expansion of its supervision of securities sales in the state.'
