Decatur Wrestlers Win Over Angola

The Decatur high school wrestlers continued to roll Thursday as they traveled to Angola to record their tenth win of toe season with a 43-8 thumping of the home team. The victory was the fourth straight for the local grapplers and made their season record a sparkling 10-2, and an .833 winning percentage. In addition, several individuals added another wins to their sensational personal records. Culver has a strong lineup this season and a great battle is expected. Thursday at Angola, Decatur won nine of 12 matches, and seven victories were pins for the local grapplers. Lehman Wins 10th Deane Lehman, veteran senior star, recorded his tenth win of the season against just three losses and a tie, when he put a quick finish on Beard in the 165 class. Lehman needed just a minute and 37 seconds to end the match. Dave Adams, 127-pounder, added to his team-leading record, which now stands at 12-1-1. Adams was awarded a forfeit when Woodworth was overweight, but won an 8-0 decision anyway, gaining five points on two near-pins. Sam Baumann brought his record to 11-1-1 with a second period pin of Hilton in the 145 weight. Baumann had a 7-0 lead in points when he pinned his foe with 36 seconds gone in the second period. Alan Kalver, 112-pounder, won his 12th of the year, the team high, as against a pair of losses, when he outpointed Deller by a 5- score. Gary Myers also continued his winning ways with a 6- decision over Welkoff in the 120 weight. 'Die win boosts Myers’ record to 11-2-1 for the season. Eyanson. Hazelwood Win Little guy Tom Eyanson and heavyweight Steve Hazelwood each rang up their ninth victories. Eyanson won a 14-2 decision over Putman in the 95 class, with three near-pins. Eyanson had won the match by forfeit since his foe was overweight, but recorded the easy decision when they went ahead with the bout. Hazelwood, who set a school record Tuesday night with a 29second pin, needed a bit mare time Thursday, as he pinned Myers in one minute and 29 seconds. Tim Magley and Art Ybarra were also winners with pins. Magley pinned Converse in the 154 class with two seconds remaining in the first period, and Ybarra built up a 4-0 lead before pinning Hilton in the 103 crass with 1:39 left in the third period. Magley’s sixth. Darryl Grote and Myer of Angola battled to a scoreless draw in the 180 clash, giving each team two points. It was the first scoreless draw of the season in which Decatur was involved. Angola got their other six team points with decisions. Boor outpointed Lennie Corral in the 133 class by a 7-4 score, and Stroh decisioned Neil Butcher by a 2-1 count in the 138 division. Following the season finale Saturday, Coach Geissler and his grapplers will begin pointing to the sectional meet which will beheld the following Saturday at a site yet unannounced.
