Party Conventions Scheduled Earlier INDIANAPOLIS (UPD—A revised schedule for Indiana’s political party conventions this summer was completed today when the Republican State Committee approved a June 9 date. The committee was called into an emergency session after State Chairman Robert N. Stewart learned of a new rule which required certification of delegates to the party’s national convention at least 30 days before the July 13 opening. Previously, the Republicans had planned to convene here here June 23 and the Democrats June 26. The Democratic State Committee, in a telephone poll earlier this week by State Chairman Manfred Core, agreed to reschedule that party’s convention for June 12. The new dates are two weeks earlier than the old, and the format is the same—the Republicans first, the Democrats three days later. The parties traditionally share expense for chair rental, decorations and other equipment and hold their conventions the same week, thereby saving thousands of dollars in costs of staging the big meetings.
