JUNIOR ARTS DEPARTMENT MEETS The Junior Arts Department of the Decatur Woman’s club held its second meeting January 22 at the home of Mary Ann Holthouse. The minutes were read and approved. A social meeting to be held the last week of March was discuss- . ed. It was suggested that the group eat at the Four Seasons restaurant and go bowling. It was hoped that Miss Linn could present her program on the history of jazz at that time. Last minute details of the program to be given by the department January 27 were taken care of and the program rehearsed. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess, Mary Ann Holthouse, and her assisting committee consisting of Becky Mauller, chairman; Ann Allwein, Anita Shirack, Jane Tricker, Velma Fairchild, and Becky Sheets. Monmouth f. h. a. MEETS AT SCHOOL The Monmouth chapter of the F.H.A. held its meeting recently at the school.. The meeting was called to order by Kathy Buuck, with the opening ritual. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. Old and new business . was discussed. Dr. William Freeby conducted an interesting discussion on dating and family relations. The meeting was adjourned with the closing ritual. Refreshments were served by Lila Anderson, Nancy Krueckeberg, Joan Scheumann, Judy Bultemeier, and Karen Fuhrman. The Civic Department of the Decatur Woman’s club will meet Monday at 7:30 p. m, at the home of Mrs. Francis Ellsworth. Mrs. R. K. McConnell, Mrs. Frank Lynch, Mrs. Ralph Smith, Sr., and Mrs. Harley Wright comprise the committee. NEW YORK STATE LESSON TOPIC The Historical club met at the home of Mrs. Cordelia Adler with seventeen members present. In her lesson on New Work State, Mrs. Frances Borders pointed out that New York is known as the “Empire” state. Hie state’s motto is “Excelsior,” which means upward. New York City is the capital and agriculture is an important economy of the’ state. The Iroquois and Algonquin Indians originally inhabited the state. The Adirondacks and Catskill mountains are in »the eastern portion of the state. There are many waterfalls including the famous Niagara FaUs. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. James Shackley, 510 Indiana street, Feb. 5. Mrs. Beulah Shackley will be hostess. FORMER DECATURITES HONORED AT PARTY Dr. Blanche L. tion was in honor of their wedding anniversary and the birthday of Dr. Krick. In addition to the big dinner they received several gifts to commemorate the occassion. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. “Speck” Hebble and family, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Straub, Sr., and the Otto J. Baker family. Unable to attend were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Straub, Jr. The Kricks, former Decatur residents, recently returned from a week’s vacation at Fort Meyers, Fla. The Order of RainbowQor Girls will attend services at the United Church of Christ, Third and Jackson streets, Sunday, Feb. 2 as a group with their mother advisor. Members are to meet in the east entrance at 9:45 a.m. engagement revealed Miss Nancy Sue Koehl is engaged to marry Larry Wayne Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Davis, Sr., Decatur, according to an announcement by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Koehl Fort Wayne. Miss Koehl, a North Side high school graduate, is employed at Clay Pharmacy, Fort Wayne. Her fiance is a graduate of Decatur! high school and is employed by F. McConnell and Sons, Decatur. No date has been set for the wedding. MISS SHIRLEY WEST RECENT BRIDE Miss Shirley West, daughter of Mrs. Daisy West, recently became the bride of Jordan Logan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hobart Logan, Sandusky, Ohio. The Rev. C. E. Roberts preformed the ceremony, with the wedding music being played by Mrs. Roberts. The couple will make their home on route 5, where Logan is employed by the Decatur Pure Oil Truck Stop, east of the city. GOLDEN AGE GROUP MEETS THURSDAY The Golden Age group of the Methodist church met in the church parlor, Thursday evening, with thirteen members and two guests present. Mrs. Dovie Bedwell, president, conducted the meeting. Hymns wefe sung, and the Lord’s Prayer repreated before devotions were given by Mrs. Harry Sipe. Mrs. Frank Crist then read a very interesting article entitled “The Enjoyment of Life.” A short business meeting was then held. It was reported that 25 calls were made and cards were sent to the sick and shut-ins. Following the meeting a social hour was enjoyed and refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Bedwell. Two Local Students Will Receive Caps Eileen Ruth Keuneke ancl Kay Elaine Stevens, bath of Decatur,,., are among the 68 freshmen who will receive caps in the 11th annual capping service of Park-view-Methodist school of nursing Feb. 7. The ceremony will" be held in the New Haven Methodist church begining" at 730 p.m. Rev. Virgil Bjork, minister of the First Methodist church in Fort Wayne, will deliver the principal address to the largest capping class since 1960. The award of merit presentation to the outstanding freshman nursing student will be made by Margaret Rettig, assistant director of nursing education. Marie Kolter, director of nursing, will present the class of 1956 and Pamela Sue Shafer, class president from Bluffton, will deliver the response. A reception immediately following the program will be held in English Hall at Parkview-Methodist school of nursing.
Ul Miss Maran Sue Zimmerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zimmerman, route 4, Decatur, has won her silver wings as an American Airlines stewardess and is now bused in New York, assigned to flight duty out of the airline’s crew base there. She won her wings after completing a 6'4 week course of training at the airline’s stewardess college at Fort Worth, Tex., where she studied over 100 subjects including federal aviation agency regulations. theory of flight, the art of conversation, in-flight service and personal grooming. Cravens, president; Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg, first vice president; Mrs. Lowell Harper, second vice president; Mrs. Nathan Nelson, secretary; and Mrs. Glen Dickerson, treasurer. Mrs. Nathan Nelson of the Civic department announced that at the February meetinng Arthur Suttles would show’ pictures of his trip to Hawaii. The American Legion auxiliary Juniors will meet at 4 p. m. Monday at the Legion home.
