Pres. Johnson Meeting With Peace Group WASHINGTON (UPD— President Johnson meets today with the Inter-American Peace Commission which has been attempting to mediate the U. S. dispute with Panama. The comission had a 10:30 a.m. EST appointment at the White House to discuss the Panamanian situation. It requested the session with Johnson. The Inter - American group met for an hour Wednesday with Secretary of State Dean Rusk at Rusk’s request in what were termed “exploratory talks.” The committee is headed by Venezuelan Ambassador Enrique Tejeraparis. Other members are Argentina, Chile, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. The United States has begun dismantling its embassy staff in Panama. U. S. diplomats from Panama, who were moved to the Canal Zone last week at Panama’s request, have been receiving orders for home leave or transfers to other Latin American countries. A skeleton U. S. consular staff is remaining in Panama City to transact routine administrative matters. The removal of diplomatic personnel to the Canal Zone originally was termed “temporary’’ by both sides. Officials here said the reassignment of diplomatic personnel did not mean all hope was abandoned of reopening the U. S. Embassy. , , They said one factor was luck of housing for the diplomats in the Canal Zone. Officials said if diplomatic relations were restored, an embassy staff could be assembled. The U. S. foreign aid agency said aid officials who also were moved to the Canal Zone generally would remain there for the time being. It has not been decided yet whether some U.S. aid programs in Panama might be continued. All programs halted when Panama broke relations * with the United States; The peace commission went to Panama after the bloody riots which killed at least 21 persons, including four American soldiers.

Pope Paul To Send Cardinal To East VANTICAN CITY <UPI> — Pope Paul VI will send a leading Roman Catholic cardinal to 'the Middle East within the next few days to establish further contacts with the Eastern Orthodox Church according to Vatican sources. They said Giacomo Cardinal Ercaro, archbishop of Bologna, Italy, has been chosen to make the trip. Ercaro is expected to meet the Eastern Orthodox patriarch of Antioch, Turkey, but details of his itinerary were not disclosed. However, Vatican circles considered the trip an important move toward the reunification of Eastern and Western churches following a separation of 900 years. The spiritual head of the world’s Roman Catholics and the leader of the world’s Eastern Orthodoxy met for the first time in 500 years when Pope Paul and Athenagoras, Patriarch of Constantinople, embraced in the Holy Land earlier this month. Patriarch Alexius of Moscow and all Russia, who heads the Russian branch of the Orthodox Church, hailed the historic encounter Wednesday night. He told newsmen in the Soviet capital the meeting was “proof of the friendly atmosphere which has developed between the Orthodox and Catholic churches.” Decatur Sophomore In Trumpet Choir MUNCIE, Ind. — Richard F.
