Commodores Score Easy Win Over Monroeville Wednesday Night, 67-52
By Pete Reynolds The Decatur Commodores scored their seventh victory of the season as against four defeats Wednesday night by turning back the Monroeville Cubs, 67-52, at the Decatur gym. The Cubs, one of two Allen county teams who will compete in the Adams Central sectional tourney in February, have won only one game in nine attempts this season. The Commodores never trailed in last night’s tilt, although the score was tied on five different occasions in the first 10 minutes of the game. Dan Lose’s free throw, the first of his 22 points for the night, gave the Commodores the first point of the game. The score was knotted at 5-5, 7-7 and 9-9, but the Decatur lads held a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Jon Crates, only Cub able to hit with any consistency, dropped in a pair of free throws and a field goal for a 15-15 tie in the first minute of the second period. John Lose and Sam Marquardt
traded fielders, then Jim Schultz hit his only two-pointer of the game and the Commodores were in front to stay . George Waning’s boys increased their margin to five points, 31-26, at the main intermission, and gradually built up their advantage to 11 points at the end of the third quarter, 49-38. Monroeville failed to offer any serious threat throughout the last eight minutes of play. Dan Lose paced the Commodores victory with 22 points, while Dick Qmlor tallied 12 and Ed Kohne Ifr Crates, with 20 markers, was the only Cub in double figures. Only a wide advantage from the free throw line kept the Cubs at all close. With ;21 personals wtfistled on |the Commodores and only eight and one technical on the Cubs, Monroeville converted 16 of 33 foul tosses, the Commodores five of . only eight chances. \ The Commodores swing back into action Friday night, traveling to Geneva to meet the Cardinals, who downed the Commodores in
