SOCIAL SECURITY QUIZ 1. Q—l own a small seasonal business. My net profit will not exceed S6OO in 1963. I understand that as I have profit of less than Sfioo. I, will not have to pav income tax: Do T have to pay socint tax? A—Yes. if the net earnings frnrn the business are S4OO or iwe. von are required to file. 2. O—T will retire at age 67 on January 1. 1964. Mv wife is only 61'nnd plans on working one more veer. Her earnings are about $5,000 ne r year. Will this affect mv serial 'ecuritv pavments’ A—No. You will receive vour full 'ocial security pav regardless o f the amount your wife earns. • 3. Q—T hire a man to helo me on mv farm as I need him. Sometimes" he works a full dav and a vain he will work only a few hours. He mav work on 25 or 30 days during the vear. T doubt if he will earn $l5O in wages all vear long. Should these wages be reported the same as for a full-time man? A—Yes. They" should be reported the following January on Form 943 Just as long as he'was paid on a time basis rather than on a "work-done” or "piece-rate”-basis, the wages must be reported. 4 Q—l used to work in a factory but now I operate my own farm-.- -My previous employer reported my wages for social secur- .« itv purposes every three months. Do I report the wages paid to my hired man every three months? A—No. Where agricultural wages are concerned, you make your report and pay the tax only once a year, and this is done in January. The form to use for this purpose is Form 943. Any social security office or internal revenue office will be glad to explain the use of the form to you. .5. Q—l will be moving to a new address . sometiriie next month. However, Fhaven't found an apartment yet. ft 1 can't find an apartment until shortly before I have to jnove, what should I do? A—As soon as you know your new address, notify both social security and the post office. If social Security gets the notice before the middle of the month, your next check can generally be sent to the new address. But give the post, office your new address, too, so that your check can be forwarded to you if the change of address is not processed in time. 6. Q—l plan to move across the street from my present address. Since I will have the same ' postman, should I notify social security? /■ A—Yes, notify social security and the post office of your new address so there will be no possibility of a lost benefit check.
