Harry Truman Says JFK Record Good NE WYORK (UPD—Former President Harry S. Truman said today it was too soon .for him to assess John F. Kennedy’s brief career in the White House. But, he said, Kennedy “will have a good reputation when history is written-he did a good job.” Truman neglected his usual early morning walk today. He said he had a social breakfast appointment at the Waldorf Astoria with James A. Farley, former cabinet member during the Roosevelt administration. The former president spoke to newsmen briefly before leaving the Hotel Carlyle where he and his wife have been staying for the Christmas holiday. “Fitting Memorial” Truman called the renaming of New York International Airport Kennedy Airport in honor of the slain President a “fitting memorial.” In the aftermath of President Kennedy’s assassination Americans have wanted to rename almost everything “including the pups and cats,” he said. “But after things settle down we’ll get the right one (memorial) in the right place,” Truman added. “And that will be in Washington.” Asked to size up the current Congress with the so-called “donothing” Congress during his admin i s t r a t i o n, Truman snapped, “I make no odious comparison. “You can’t do anything with that Congress and neither can Asked About Johnson Asked if he thought President Johnson had seriously alienated congressional Republicans in winning his fight on the foreign aid bill, Truman said; “I hope he has. He woudln’t be a good Democrat if he hadn’t. They (the Republicans) are always wrong.” Truman again declined to discuss his views on potential nominees for the Democratic vice presidential nomination. • “It’s a matter for Mr. Johnson to decide,” he said. As for the presidential nominee, Truman said, “there’s only one candidate and his name is Johnson. He’s going to be elected. There’s no doubt in my mind.”-* , Dr. Ray Heffner, Jr/‘ Takes I. U.
