Decatur Wrestlers Win Wednesday

The Decatur high school wrestling team, alter suffering its first loss of the season Tuesday night, bounced back Wednesday night at North Manchester to win 10 of 12 matches and post a 42-6 score over their hosts. The local grapplers copped the first five matchesvtq take a 21-0 lead, lost the next two, and then won the last five for the resounding victory. It was the sixth time in six matches in two seasons the Decatur team has beaten North Manchester. Two of s the Decaturities, Gary Myers and Dave Adams, kept alive' their personal unbeaten streaks. Both have won six matches and drawn once in seven efforts this Season. The other unbeaten wrestler on the team, Sam Baumann, who has a 5-0-1 record, was sick and unable to make the trip. The win gives Gary -Giessler and his crew a sparkling 6-1 record which they will keep during a three-week period, before returning to the mat January 9 at Muncie Central. 95-pounder Tom Eyanson got the ball rolling for Decatur when he pinned Walters of North Manchester with a minute and 42 seconds elapsed in the first period. It was Evanson's fifth win and third pin of the season. Ybarra Gets Forfeit Arthur Ybarra picked up another five peints by jdst being present as his foe in the 103 class became ill just befo'e the match and was forced to forfeit to him. Alan Kalver posted his sixth win in seven tries in the 112 weight as he won a hard-earned 3-2 decision over Bumgardner of the hosts., He got two points for a first period takedown and hung on the rest of the way for the win.; — Myers and Adams, a great onetwo punch in the 120 and 127 weights, respectively, then posted wins and boosted their team's lead to 21-0. The rugged Myers used a pair of reversals, a take-' down and a near-pin for a 9-4 decision over Howard, while Adams built up a 6-2 lead before pinning Beck with 25 seconds remaining in the third period. It was the third pin of the Year for Adams, while Myers has four, tieing him with Baumann for the most pins on the club. Only Points North Manchester then got on the scoreboard, as Ihnen won a 10-7 decision over Lennie Corral in the 133 class. Greer added another three .points for the home team as he out pointed Neil Butcher 12-9 in the 138 weight. Greer built up-a 12-3 lead before Butcher rallied for six points in the final period and n‘e ar 1 y pulled the match out of the fire. Tim Magley, normally a 154pounder, filled in ..for Baumann in the 145 claiss and got Decatur back on the winning path as he pinned Simpson with 22 'seconds left in the first period. It was Magley’s fourth win this season. Dan Johnson stepped into the 154 weight for Magley and recorded his first varsity win l as he decisioned Gratz, 5-4. The bout was tied 3-3 when Johnson got a twopoint reversal in the final period for the winning margin. Lehman Has Quickest . Deane Lehman continued the rout in the 165 weight as he recorded the quickest pin of the evening and boosted his team’s lead Jo 34-3.-Lehman pinned Spacy in just a minute and 16 seconds for his sixth win of the season. Larry Rcinking won his fifth match of the year against a draw and a looss as he decisioned Clevenger by a 7-0 count. The husky 180-pounder got a two point takedown in the frist period, and five points in the last period on a reversal and a near-pin. Big Steve Hazelwood then finished the rout as he bounced back from an attack of the flu and his first loss Tuesday, to pin Ross in

The Decatur reserves, who lost by a 19-9 score at Muncie, upped their record to 3-1 with a 27-0 shutout of the North Manchester reserves. Kip Lutes, Dave Green and Steve Beavers pinned their opponents, Beavers needing just a minute five seconds. Steve Baumann won a 4-0 decision, Bob Hawkins a 2-0 decision, Andy Crider a 12-2 decision and Dennis Switley aj 3-1 decision. Christmas Party Is Held By Cub Scouts The Northwest school Cub scout pack held its annual Christmas party for the Cubs and their parents, Monday evening at the school. The program opened jvith the introduction of Richard Stoner, a magician from Fort Wayne, Stoner held the interest of everyone with his very enjoyable magic. Several of the parents and scouts helped Stoner, thus adding to the hilarious program. Some of Stoner’s tricks were the rope, scarf, card, pafper bag, steel rings, rabbit and tube, iust to name a few. To complete the evening, Floyd Reed introduced Bill Spice, district scout director in Decatur. Spice reminded the parents of their obligations to help their boys in scouting. Due to ill health C. Shaffer may find it necessary to retire from his job as cub master, so it will be up the parents to assist with the scout work. He has been in the Bluffton hospital for observation. Treats were passed out to each Cub after the evening entertainment. There were several projects the boys brought along for the parents to observe what the boys have been learning. Service Station Damaged By Auto A service station building, a mail box, and five Vehicles were damaged in traffic mishaps in Decatur Wednesday. The Burke Standard station at Five Points received an estimated $l9O damage when hit by a car in a freak mishap. Ralph Allen Bollinger, 30, of 316 Mercer Ave., bad pulled into the station drive. The left front wheel of the auto came off, causing the dar to go out of control and crash into an overhead door. The car suffered approximately sls damage in the 6:43 p.m. mishap. A mail box at the residence of Marion Heare, Homestead No. 5, was struck down by an unidentified vehicle around 9:30 p.m. The vehicle fled tjie scene after striking the mail box. At 3:18 p.m. Wednesday, a car driven by Patrick Werst, 16, of 408 N. Second St., and a taxi operated by Bruce R. Liechty, 34, a resident of the Rice Hotel, collided at the intersection of Front and Jackson streets, near First St. . Werst was northbound on Front and the taxi was traveling east on Jackson when the two vehicles collided. Damages were estimated at $250 to the Werst car and $l5O to the taxi. A truck driven by Httrry W. Geisel, 22, of Bluffton, rammed into the rear of a car driven by Phyllis J. Zwick, 38, of 1515 W. Monroe St., at 12:54 pm. " Both vehicles were westbound on Monroe St., and as-the Decatur lady stopped for a red light at the 13th St. • intersection, her truck.
