A Merry Christmas •«> *> • * i. '• " ; ' Any Decatur individual who so desires can turn this Christmas from a purely social-commercial event into one which mirrors the brotherly love and com- “ passion of Jesus Christ — through the Decatur Good Fellows. This Christmas between 60 and 75 families will be aided by your contributions through the Decatur Good Fellows — they will receive food, donated toys (none are purchased with cash gifts), canned goods, potatoes, chicken, coffee, cake, jello, puddings, crackers, noodles, oranges, apples, milk, bread, etc. Mrs. Wilmer BultCmeier and Mrs. Kenneth Shannon head up this worthy organization in the 35th year of its operation; it was founded about 1928 by the late Mrs. Raymond B. Kohne and Mrs. William Bowers, members of Delta Theta Tau sorority, who have carried it on as their philanthropic endeavor ever since. All 22 members of the sorority help, though — it is a real community effort, with nearly 100 individuals donating, with boy scouts and girl scouts assisting, the city loaning a couple of trucks and drivers, Teeple trucking . lending a truck and driver, etc. f The sorority carefully screens by investigation all of the cases presented. There are, of course, the occasional cheater, but most are very grateful. In fact, one of the most cheerful aspects is the help received by people who themselves have received help in the past; some of the most faithful givers and contributors remember how as a child their family received help from the Good Fellows, and they wish to help others now who are more needy than they are. Donations may be left with Miss Rosemary Spangler at the Recorder’s office, or at the Decatur Democrat office, where a box for cash donations is located. Those having Christmas toys or food may take it directly to the Decatur fire station, where the women are already separating gifts by the box, and where the toys will be divided Saturday. The gifts will be distributed next Monday, December 23, to "those whom the committee find most needy. No cash money is given, and no clothes — just food and toys. Other worthy organizations provide Jhe former gifts. \ The ladies of Delta Theta Tau sorority are to -be complimented for their public service — and more than that, if you really feel that they are going a worthy job, you can help, too, by making a contribution of cash, canned goods, or toys. _ 1-0 Editorial written by Dick Heller
