SOCIAL SECURITY QUIZ 1. Q —l have worked under social security since it started. When I retire, will I receive the maximum social security benefit of $127 per month? A—Not necessarily. The amount of your benefit is based on the amount of your earnings. If your earnings were less than the maximum prescribed by law, your benefit might be less than the’ maximum benefit. 2. Q—During World War 11, J served with the U. S. Army for 4 years. I have been told that this military service is creditable under social security. Is this true? A—Yes, military service during World War II was covered under social security. The service member is given credit for military service at the rate of $l6O per month for each month or part of a month in which he was on active duty. 3. Q—l am a newly ordained minister. I have heard that I can be covered under social security. How do I obtain such coverage 9 A—Assuming you already have a social security card, you would file a waiver certificate (Form 2031) with the district director of internal revenue, then report your income from the ministry in the same manner a self-employed businessman—that, is, complete a form 1040 and also a schedule C. There is a time limitation on how soon you should file your waiver certificate. For further information, contact your social security office. • 4. Q —l am 65 years old and plan to retire January 1, 1964. I have a child who is disabled and has been since birth. Can this child receive any social security benefits? A—Yes. The child can receive social security benefits as long as the disabling event occurred prior to the child’s 18th birthday. If the disability continues, the child will be entitled to social security benefits for the duration of its life.

The law requires that social security tax be withheld from all wages earned in covered employment. I have been told that when I retire, my husband can receive social security benefits based on my work. Is this true? (UPI) — William Collins, 73, Peppertown, was in Franklin County jail today on a preliminary charge of murder in the shotgun slaying of his son-in-law, Harold Reams, 28. Authorities said Reams and Collins apparently began arguing during breakfast Monday. Collins picked up the shotgun apd ran down the road. Reams followed in a car and the argument resumed.
