shipboard crane or a specially designed Sea-Land vessel. The van, which thus 1 becomes a giant shipping crate, is stacked securely , either topsicie or in an elevator-shaft-like hold. Loading and unloading of the ship is handled simultaneously. A Sea-Land ‘‘trailership” can beloaded and unloaded in almost one-sixth the time required few a conventional cargo ship. In Catano, Peurto Rico, where the new mill is being erected, the Central Soya van shipment is unloaded from the vessel, placed once again on a trailer chassis and trucked to the plant site. The new mill equipment which is being shipped in the special vans was designed by Central

Ralph Kenyon, 964 Highland Park, is superintendent of the maintenance and repair department which fabricated most of the equipment. Rag Rugs “• When washing your rag rugs, starch them a little afterwards, and this will prevent them from curling at the edges. Fowl Plucking To simplify removing pin feathers from a plucked fowl, brush lightly against the growth with a copper wool scouring pad. This will curl them upward for easy grasping with the fingertips or kitchen tweezers. ? ——_—■— — y — ■

What do women expect from today’s home laundry appliances? While a few are satisfied with a washer that will get the dirt out of the family clothes with a minimum of labor, surveys show that most homemakers now want appliances that will deliver clothes that need q minimum of further processing, luch as ironing, and at the' same time preserve the special qualities the clothes had when new. Wash-and-wear is another way of saying this, of course. Wash-and-wear is a great potential time and labor saver. The reverse can be true, however;, if it has to be laundered without a modern washer and dryer. Without the proper equipment, you really have to choose which way you’ll have your wash-and-wear — it’s either a lot of work and mess or it doesn’t stay wash-and-wear. It’s a lot of work and mess if you wash wash-and-wear by hand and let it drip dry. If you choose the no-work, way of machine washing and air drying wash-and-wear, you can no longer wear it without ironing. Only Steaming Envelopes If you should happen to seal an envelope before enclosing something important, steam it open by laying a cloth wrung from cold water over the flap of the envelope and running a hot iron over the cloth. Then reseal with the white of egg, which cannot be steamed open.

a washer and dryer with wash-and-wear cycles will let yoti Waltz Through Washday by automatically delivering wash-and-wear that in nearly all cases- is truly ready to wear, even without touchup ironing. Washing wash-and-wear in an older washer involves considerable care and tedious watching. You must choose (usually, manually) a warm-water wash and cold rinse, a shortened wash cycle, a slow wash speed and a slow or shortened spin period. It is quite likely that your present, washer lacks one or more of these settings. This means more watch-ing-afid bothersome manual ad-' justing and, quite likely, disappointing results.

Even if yw wash-and-wear successfully navigates the perils of the washer, it’s still only halfway home. • SBA dryer with a wash-and-wear cycle is the key to care-free wash-and-wear. After drying the clothes at the proper gentle temperature, the wash-and-wear cycle continues to tumble the clothes with cool air. The working of the wash-and-wear cycle is beautifully simple. Wrinkles and creases are removed by the heat and the cool air reduces the temperature of the clothes below the point at which they will re-wrinkle: The result is a flawless finish that even hand ironing cannot give. A washer and dryer able to handle wash - and - wear automatically is an ’investment that is bound to pay off. Every yeai an ever increasing number of garments are. being laundered by machine at home. Lingerie, dresses, sportswear, shirts and blouses are commonplace now. To this list you can now add jackets, coats, suits and sweaters —garments you never expected to put in a machine in the past.
