Most College Grid Contests , Are Postponed UPI Sports Writer One Orange and a Tangerine have already been picked but a lot of ripe fruit in the form of lucrative bowl bids remains to be divided as spoils among the nation’s major college football powers this week. Nebraska thrashed Oklahoma, 29-20, on Saturday to nail down an Orange Bowl hid and Western Kentucky accepted a berth in the Tangerine Bowl immediately after crushing Murray State, 50-0. But most of the “bowl deciding” games as well as conference championship contests were postponed due to the death of President Kennedy, and have been rescheduled for this week. The situation is as easy as pumpkin pie in the Big Ten where fourth - ranked Michigan State and eighth-ranked Illinois square off on Thanksgiving Day with the league title and Rose Bowl trip at stake. The winner goes, die loser stays, and in the event of a tie, the Spartans get the nod. Up For Grabs The other berth at Pasadena’s Rose garden will be decided Saturday when Washington hosts Washington St. and Southern Cal tangles with rival UCLA. Should the Huskies whip State, they will get the nod. A Washington loss would throw the Big Six into a frenzy with even State in the running for the bowl bid. Texas, which has already mapped its cattle drive to the Cotton Bowl, meets arch-rival Texas A&M on Thursday with mostly prestige on the line. The Longhorns, top-ranked in the country, are aiming for their first undefeated - untied, season in some 40 years. Third-ranked Mississippi can complete its annual travel plans for the Sugar Bowl by whipping Mississippi State in one of the formidable “family feuds” scheduled for Saturday. The Rebels can wrap up the Southeastern Conference title with a win but a loss would give the title to the winner of the Ala-bama-Auburn clash. Auburn defeated Florida State, 21-15 Saturday. The Pentagon must decide this week if the football spectacular of the year, the ArmyNavy game, will go on as scheduled Saturday. The second ranked Middies, with the ’ brilliant Roger Staubach at quarterback, will probably go to the - Cotton Bowl opposite Texas if they beat Army. If not, they will go nowhere. Florida Tops Miami .‘f’ In feature games last weekend, Florida shattered Miami, 27-21; Tennessee stunned Kentucky, 19-0; Louisiana State zeroed Tulane, 20-0; Vanderbilt scored its first win of the season with a 31 - 0 spanking of George Washington; Arkansas bested Texas Tech, 27-20; and Utah upset Utah State, 25-23. Ohio U. blanked Marshall, 170, to capture the Mid-America Conference crown but the Ivy League and Atlantic Coast Conferences won’t be settled until this week. Ivy leader Princeton faces Dartmouth while runnerup Harvard observes its “traditional” with Yale on Saturday. Duke and North Carolina slug it out on Thanksgiving with the winner gaining a a final tie with North Carolina State in the ACC. Other major contests to be held Thanksgiving include Wisconsin at Minnesota. Clemson at South Carolina, Virginia at Maryland. Furman at West Virginia and Notre Dame plays Syracuse in New York. Indiana Football Coach To Clinic BLOOMNGTON, Ind. (UPI) — Indiana football coach Phil Dickens flew to Rochester, Minn., under doctors orders today for a "physical checkup in the Mayo Clinic and was expected to miss Saturday’s postponed season finale here against Purdue. In his absence, athletic director Bill Orgiw named line coach Bob Hicks to be acting head coach. Federal Judges To Judge Competition SOUTH BEND, Ind. (UPD — Three federal judges will preside Nov. 30 at the University of’Notre Dame’s 14th' annual moot court .. competition. They are Chief Judge Elbert Parr Tuttle and Judge Richard T. Rives of the sth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Judge E. Eschback of the Northern Indiana District Court at Fort Wayne. p 0 20 Years Ago Today 0 0 Nov. 25. 1943 — was Thanksgiving Day and no paper was published.

Cards Upset Giants, Bears Held To Tie By NORMAN MILLER . UPI Sports Writer The St. Louis »’» Cardinals should be grateful, to their underrated defense for boosting them into a triple tie for the National Football League’s Eastern Division lead, and the Chicago Bears can thank Roger LeClerc that things aren’t all knotted up in the West, too. Hie Cardinals upset the New York Giants, 24-17, Sunday and made it a new race in the Eastern Division. The Cleveland Browns, by defeating the Dallas Cowboys, 27-17, joined in the first-place tie with St. Louis and New York. All have 8-3 records. . ■ / The Pittsburgh Steelers nearly threw the Western Division into a deadlock, too, but LeClerc kicked an 18 - yard field goal with 4.31 remaining to give the Bears a 17-17 tie. The Green Bay Packers, who tied for the lead if the Bears ty Niners, 28 - 10, would have defeated the San FranciscoForhad lost. Chicago now has a 9-1-1 record; Green Bay is 9-2. In Sunday’s other games, played on a Sunday of mourning for President Kennedy, the Los Angeles Rams edged the Baltimore Colts, 17-16; the Minnesota Vikings squeezed past the Detroit Lions, 34-31; and the Washington Redskins defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, -13-10. > Broke 17-17 Tie The Cardinals broke a 17-17 tie against the Giants on Charley Johnson’s three-yard touch-, down pass to Bobby Joe Conrad early in the final period. Garland Boyette set up the score by recovering a fumbled punt by the Giants’ Ed Dove on the New -York 20. At Pittsburgh, the Bears twice went ahead on short touchdown runs, by Willie Galimore and Ron Bull, only to have the Steelers come back to score on Dick Hoak’s six-yard run and Ed Brown’s 31 - yard pass to rookie Roy Curry, tying the game at halftime, 14-14. Lou Michaels put the Steelers ahead with an 11-yard field goal in the final quarter, four minutes before LeClerc tied the score permanently. Jimmy Brown gained only 51 yards in 17 carries against Dallas, leaving him 30 yards short of his own NFL season rushing record of 1,527. But Frank Ryan threw touchdown passes of 11 and 16 yards to Gary Collins and Ross Fichtner ran back an interception 36 yards for another Cleveland TD. The Browns intercepted four passes by Don Meredith during the second half. First Half Surge The Packers, with Bart Starr back at quarterback, scored all 28 points during the first half against the Forty Niners. Elijah Pitts, filling in for injured Tom Moore, threw a 21 - yard
