Over $5.2 Million To County Workers During the first quarter of 1962, about 4,945 workers in Adams county’s non-farming businesses earned taxable wages of more than $5.2 million under the cldage, survivors, and disability insurance program, according to the latest edition of county business patterns, Ruth H. Lane, social security district manager in Fort Wayne, said today. The report shows six of the employing units reported 100 or more workers each at that time. The largest proportion of employment, 2,716 workers, was in manufacturing, with 896 employed in retail trade. 7,551 reporting units of employers of non-farm employees covered, under the program paid out some $139 million in taxable wages in the eight county area of Northern Indiana serviced by the Fort Wayne district office during the first quarter of 1962. f The current edition of County Business Patterns is the tenth in a series showing county and industry statistics based on wage reports filed under the federal social security program. This edition is divided into ten parts (15 books), one for the United States as a whole and one for each of nine geographic divisions. For five of the nine geographic divisions there are two books each. The data are uniform and comparable from state to state and county to county and are shown for many kinds of business under the following broad industry groups: agricultural services, forestry, arid fisheries; mining; contract construction; manufacturing; public utilities; wholesale trade; retail trade; finance, insurance and real estate; and services. Rezoning Os City Under Study Today Plans to rezone the city of Decatur continued this morning as a group of city officials toured the city with Harold Sheridan, of Metropolitan Planners, Inc., who is consultant for the program. The mayor, city council members, city attorney, and members of the board of zoning appeals

and the city zoning board, toured the city with Sheridan in a bus, in order that they might all be together for discussion, instead of separated in individual automobiles. Sheridan recently submitted a proposed ordinance for rezoning, but some revisions have been discussed since that time, and these were the main points of this morning’s tour.
