PYTHIAN SISTERS HOLD ANNUAL INSPECTION The Pythian Sisters Temple held their annual inspection at the Moose home Monday evening. The meeting was opened by Mrs. Cecil Gause, most excellent chief, introducing the past grand chiefs of district 4 and the guests present from Marion, Tocsin, Ossian, and Bluffton. At the inspection meeting Mrs. William Barber presided. The Decatur staff, dressed in white formats, presented the initiation of the candidate. Mrs. Iva Weesner, district deputy grand chief, Marion, delivered a very interesting address. A delicious luncheon was then served in the dining room from tables decorated in Halloween colors with bowls of fall flowers by the hostesses, tne Mesdames Robert Witham, Carl Barnett, Bert Haley, and Robert Judt. MRS. E. H. COOK HOSTESS TO RESEARCH CLUB The Research club met Monday at the home of Mrs. E. H. Cook with two new members present. They were Mrs. Harry Dailey and Mrs. Dean Boltz. At the age of 60 he opened in Brooklyn with the “Greatest Show on Earth,” the first American traveling circus. The two greatest sensations of his career were the midget, Tom Thumb, and the Swedish songbird, Jenny Lind. Following the current events exchange, the hostess served delicious candy. The Our Lady of Victory Dis- ~ cussion group meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday following church will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, at 8 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Henry Braun. The Gals and Pals Home Demonstration club will meet at the Pleasant Mills school, Monday at 7:30 p. m. This will be guest night. L. W. M. L. AND L. L. L. HOLD JOINT RALLY The Lutheran Women’s Missionary league and the Luthedan Laymen’s league of the Decatur zone held a joint rally at the St. John’s Lutheran church, Bingen, Sunday evening. Devotions were given by the Rev. Edwin Jacob pastor of the host congregation. Herbert Witte, president of the LLL, then introduced the guest speaker, Walter P. Helmke, prosecuting attorney of Allen county, who spoke on “the Christian Home and Law Enforcement.” The president then showed slides entitled “Break Through,” depicting the functions of the LLL, the mission work already completed and that yet to be completed. The Rev. Jacob gave the closing devotions and the ladies adjourned to the school for a separate business meeting. The ladies business meeting was brought to order by the president, Mrs. Charles Reynolds. Mrs. Ben Gerke, who was sent as a representative of the Decatur zone to a national convention at Kansas City, Kan., gave a report of that convention. She also showed slides to accompany her talk. An election of officers was held with the following elected: Mrs. Don Kuck, Fort Wayne, president; Mrs. Henry Macke, Preble, vice president; Mrs. Arnold Thieme. Decatur, secretary-treasurer. The Rev. Otto Mueller, advisory pastor, installed the new officers and gave a vote of thanks to the outgoing president for her fine W'ork for the past years. An invitation to .. attend the spring rally was extended by St. John’s, Flat Rock. The meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer in unison. A light luncheon was then served by the hostess.

MISS SYLVIA MILLER ENGAGED TO WED Mr. and. Mrs. Lloyd Miller, route 1, Monroe, announce the engagement of their eldest daughter, Sylvia May, to Walter James Buettner, son, of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Buettner, Decatur. Miss Miller is a graduate of Adams Central high school and is employed by Lincoln National Life Insurance company. Her fiance, is a graduate of Pleasant Mills high school and is presently serving with the U. S. Navy. A December wedding is planned. The Monroe W. C. T. U. will meet Thursday at 1:30 p. m. at the home of Mrs Homer Winteregg. The Decatur W. C. T. U. will meet Friday at 1 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Jesse Niblick. Members are reminded that dues are to be paid at this time and that Mrs. Halladay will speak for united church women at the Baptist church, Friday at 7:30 p .m. JR. CONSERVATION CLUB HOLDS JOINT MEETING The boys and girls division of the Junior Conservation club held a joint meeting recently. Several important matters of business were acted upon. The girls regular meeting date will be the first Monday of every month. A joint meeting will be held the second Monday and will feature films. The boys are to meet the last Monday of each month. Members are to be on their way home before 6 p. m. the evening of the meeting. November 10 is scheduled as the date of the club’s field trip to Chicago and November 11 is the date of the first party. SKITCH HENDERSON IN FORT WAYNE, NOV. 9 Skitch Henderson and his orchestra will be in the Allen county memorial coliseum Saturday, Nov. 9. Dancing will begin at 9 p. m. under the sponsorship of die Beta Sigma Phi sorority city council. Highlighting the event, sponsored by the 21 Fort Wayne chapters of the sorority, will be the crowning of Beta Sigma Phi’s queen and princess, selected from candidates nominated by each chapter. Proceeds from the dance will be used in the sorofity’ philanthropic projects. Tickets for the event may be purchased at Wolf and Dessauer’s service center or by contacting Miss Beverly Soucie, 1610 Sinclair St., Fort Wayne, phone 743-2555. Beta Sigma Phi sorority is an international one with over 150,000 members in 7,000 chapters; two chapters being located in Decatur. F. held their monthly fellowship and devotional Monday evening at the home of their sponsor and teacher, Miss Kay Burke. The social room was gayly decorated in keeping with the Halloween spirit. DARRELL GRICE HONORED SATURDAY Darrell Grice was honored Saturday evening with a combination welcome home and birthday supper at his home. Darrell has been a patient at Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne for the past five months. He was celebrating his 23rd birthday. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Secaur, Mrs. Lawrence Springer, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Deßolt, Jay, Toni, and Dani, Mr. and Mrs. Nicky Secaur, Terri, and Jody, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Secaur, Jeff and Missy, Mrs. Etta Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Roth, Darlene Gase, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grice. COOTIE AUXILIARY MEETS AT POST HOME TTie Cootie auxiliary held its meeting recently at the V.F.W. post. It was announced that a get together party will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Martz, Nov. 3, for cootie and auxiliary members. Each member is to bring his family and a covered dish . The auxiliary would like to -thank the Dunbar and the Smith brothers Furniture of Berne for their donation of scrap upholstering material which will be used by the patients at the V. A. hospital at Marion. A party is being planned for the near future for the county home by the hospital chairman and representatives of the local county home. The Pocahontas Lodge will meet at the Red Men’s Hall, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Deane T. Dorwin At Panel Discussion Deane T. Dorwin, guidance counselor of the North Adams community schools, will be a member of a panel discussion at the Morris Inn at the University of Notre Dame Thursday. t Other panel members will be Don Fleener, director of admissions at Indiana Qentral College, and Paul Thune, registrar at Valparaiso University. Discussion will be on a cooperative plan for guidance and admissions, and will be presented before members of the Indiana division of the American association of college registrars and admission officers. Edward A. Suttles Completes Basic GREAT LAKES, 111. (FHTNC) —Edward A. Suttles, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Suttles of 43" Bollman St., Decatur, Ind., recently completed basic training at the Naval Training Center, Great Lake, 111. The nine-week training includes naval orientation, history and organization, seamanship, ordnance and gunnery, military drill, physical fitness, first aid and survival. During the training recruits receive tests and interviews which determine their future assignments in the 'Navy. Upon completing the program they are assigned to service schools for technical instruction or to ships and stations for on-the-job training in a Navy rating specialty. Girl Scouts Troop 65 ______ Girl Scout Troop 65 had a Halloween party in the basement of the Zion Lutheran church, Tuesday afternoon. Several games were enjoyed by the girls, after which White Aman patrol filled Halloween favors for the children at the hospital. The refresh,ments were served from tables decorated for Halloween. Biting Dog Found Tuesday Afternoon The black dog local police have been searching for since Sunday was found Tuesday afternoon. The animal was picked up around 1:50 p.m. in the area of its home at 734 High St. After the dog was positively identified by ■the parents of Randall Braun, 3, who was bitten by the dog Sunday, its owner, Mrs. Don Terry, said she would keep the dog tied up for 14 days.
