Thane Custer Member Os Center Glee Club Thane D. Ouster; son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Burdette Custer, is one of 32 students accepted for membership the Fort Wayne Purdue center glee club. , The glee club, under the direction of Dr. D. Richard Smith, assistant director of the center, has"su‘ng'several times in Decatur, and is quite popular here. Presbyterian Handbell Choir To Appear Here Monday
The First Presbyterian Church Handbell choir of Fort Wayne will be guest performers for the opening dinner of the Decatur Woman’s club, which will be held at the Youth and Community Cen«, ter Monday at 6:30 p.m. This annual event, which is attended by all of the members of the various Woman’s club departments, is the highlight of the season and 'officially opens the blub year. Lloyd Pinkerton, minister of’ music at the First Presbyterian church, is director of this well known handbell choir, which in 1959, was one of the very first to be organized in the state of Indiana. . . 11 ■' The group is composed of 10 members and plays a 37 note set of bells cast by the Petit-Frit-zen Foundry of Holland. This same firm has produced bells in every conceivable shape and form for well over 300 years. Most of the selections to be presented have been especiaUy arranged for the group by Mr. Pinkerton, and the - repertoire of the group ranges from the period of Bach to Negro Spirituals. Officers Mrs. Jethro B. Sprunger will again serve the Decatur organization as president, with her slate of officers including the following: first vice president, Mrs. W. W. Cravens, who is also in charge of the associate department; second vice president, Miss Frances Dugan; secretary, Mrs. Robert Sittier; treasurer, Mrs. Ralph Smith; past president, Mrs. Leo Curtin. Committee heads for Woman's club include Mrs. Richard Mies, program chairman; Mrs. Nathan Nelson, guest secretary; Mrs. Milo W. Black, attendance secretary, and Mrs. Gerald Durkin, American Citizenship chairman. Members of the records committee include Mrs. A. R. Holthouse, Literature; Mrs. J. Fred Fruchte, Music; Mrs. Delton Passwater, Civic; Mrs. John Hefner,, Dramatic; Mrs. Henry Heuer, Art and Miss Diane Sauer, Junior Women. This year, the ways and means committee is composed of Mrs. Jack Knudsen and Mrs. William Feller, who will each serve a three year term; Mrs. Gerald Durkin and Mrs. Nathan Nelson, two years, and Mrs. Gayle Ainsworth and Mrs. J. F. Azbell, one year each. Department Officers Each of the seven separate departments of Woman’s club, which meet once a month as a department and once a month as a combined organization, has its own slate of officers to govern it’s own club. Officers for the Civic department include Mrs. John A. Baumann, chairman; Mrs. Nathan Nelson, vice-chairman; Mrs. Earl Fuhrman, secretary; Mrs. Clarence Smith, treasurer; Mrs. Wesley Lehman, fines secretary of Woman’s club; Mrs. Everett Hutker. fines secretary of Civic department and Mrs. Glenn Mauller, chairman of finance.
