All six persons aboard the 25seat, twin-blade craft died when the helicopter fell from the sky, crashed and burned on takeoff at Idlewild Airport. Three of the victims were crewmembers, including a 21-year-old stewardess. Maria R. Fourquet of Northport, N.Y. A preliminary investigation by federal investigators indicated the crash was caused by p ..fracture in one of the two rotor-blades, usually the result of metal fatigue. Oscar Bakke, regional director of the Federal Aviation Agency, said the snapping of a blade would make a tremendous noise, much like an- explosion. Several eyewitnesses said the helicopter, a $750,000 Boeing Vertol 107 b. seemed to explode seconds after lifting off. The New York Airways' three remaining helicopters were grounded pending the outcome of the investigation. Also killed in the crash was. the pilot, Frank Lo Turco, 42. of Thornwood, N.J., a veteran Marine Corps fighter pilot who joined New York Airways in 1955, and the co-pilot, Joseph C. Giambatista, 37, of New York. Giambatista recently wed the former Fern Roberts, who had been New York Airway’s chief stewardess The three passengers killed were Mrs. Marie Wild, 51, of 8103 Springdale Parma, Ohio; George A. Langenberg, 51, of 3695 Techney Road Northbrook, 111., and R. J ’.Stankavish. 25. an employe of British Overseas Airways Corp., who lived in New York. The flight was a routine 10minute “executives’ hop" betw'een the International Airport and Wall Street. The helicopter service is a favorite with businessmen and others who wish to avoid automobile traffic between the busy airport on the outskirts of town and the heart of the city.

You, Your Child And The School
By DAVID NYDICK DPI Education Specialist Adjustment during the early weeks of the school year is difficult for some children. The new situation may create apprehension and uneasiness.
As parents you maty become aware of these developments at home You should make aii early "contact with the teacher. Close cooperation between the parents and the teacher can be very helpful. Many times the teacher can correct the problem with a few friendly remarks and a little extra attention. If this is not successful, you might have to approach this situation in a more complete manner Part of a child’s education is learning to adjust to all kinds of events. He must learn how to make friends, work in a group and talk to new acquaintances. There are many youngsters who develop these skills quickly and easily. Those who don't know how to accomplish these things properly should be given advice and some definite instruction. Protect Child It is important to protect a cnild with these problems from embarrassing situations. One reason for shyness or fear is a lack of self-confidence. The shy child is often terrified when pushed to perform in front of a group whether it be his classmates or relatives. He becomes uneasy, forgets his lines, and may even cry. This only serves to cause a greater loss of confidence. Work the opposite way. Start by building his confidence T< a< h him the techniques for getting along with people He should understand that other children don’t like to be ignored. They like
children who are relaxed and seem to enjoy themselves. Provide opportunities for the child to participate in activities with other children These activities should be those in which the child has enthusiasm and interest.
Explain how people compromise. The answer to a disagree* menT is not always yes“or nbZ It often is a center road As individuals learn to work out their differences they become closer friends. They are also more desirable people. Teach Speech Methods Teach the child methods for talking in front of a group. If he feels more confident, let him Tendho speech He may eventually develop the confidence so that he will feel more relaxed, and willing to speak to a group. This- is ->U)e type of problem which can <\ly lie.strived slowly. II needs a deal/Jf understanding and pattrnrrT IPressures will probably increase the. problem. Self-confidence is. a valuable asset. It means that an individual” leels pretty good alxnit himself. H< feels that he has something to offer others. It is natural for an individual to have the greatest confidence in areas where hi' has the greatest ability Therefore, you should identify these areas and build upon them As soon as other children begin to respect the shy child he is oh the way to correcting his problem. Remember that individuals are quite different There is room in s< < icty for all types. There is no need for a basically shy child to Ixcome an agressive one. It is important that he respects himself.
