MISS ELAINE WEIDLER HONORED AT SHOWER A miscellaneous shower was given by Mrs. Paul Conrad, Mrs. Norman Geiger and Mrs. Roger Pollock Sunday, October 6, for Miss Elain Matherine Weidler, bride-elect of Nicholas Dean Conrad, at the home of Mrs. Norman Geiger . t Upon her arrival the guest of honor was presented with a corsage of white and yellow mums? Games were played and prizes were awarded to Miss Richard Keuneke, Mrs. Lloyd. Etzler and Mrs. Alvin Conrad, who in turn presented them to the guest of honor. Gifts were numbered as they were brought with the corresponding number placed in balloons hung from the ceiling. Miss Weidler burst a balloon telling her which gift to open. The table was gaily decorated with a yellow table cloth with white and yellow streamers down the center, with little surprises packages placed in between. The center piece was a bride with a halo of white bells over head. White umbrella nut cups at each 'place, ~ . WELCOME WAGON HOLDS OCTOBER MEETING The welcome wagon club of Decatur held its October meeting at the home of Mrs. Jeanne Maxwell Thursday. Following the business meeting, a very enjoyable question and answer session on hair styling, hair coloring and other facets of good hair grooming was conducted by Mrs. Bert Hess, owner and operator of the Colonial Style Salon in Decatur. \ Mrs. Hess presented two gifts certificates for a shampoo and set and the winners were Judy Dunn and Sandy Brandenburg. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess and the cohostess, Mrs. Gail Helmrick, to the 18 ladies present. For many of the women present. For many of the women present it was their first Welcome Wagon meeting in Decatur and it is hoped they will attend the November meeting, plus any other women who would like to meet their neighbors. The members of So Cha Rea will meet at the home of Mrs. Dee Fryback at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a dessert bridge. The meeting of the Merry Matron home demonstration club at the home of Mrs. Edwin Drueckeberg_at 8 p.m. Tuesday will be a come-as-you-are gathering. Fourteen members of the historical club met Wednesday in the home of Mrs. Margaret Richards. Mrs. Mildred Nash gave a report on the “Treasure State,” Montana. The next meeting of the club will be held Wednesday, October 16 at the home of Mrs. Virginia Hazelwood. The Merrier Mondays home demonstration club will meet Monday at the home of Mrs. Cora Barger. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All Pythian Sisters and all Sunshine Girls are invited to the Flo-Kan Sunshine Girls inspection Monday at the Moose home at 4:15 p.m. Mrs. Della Neuhauser, Mrs. John Gage, Mrs. D. C. Shady and Mrs. Lawrence Michael have returned from the 89th annual convention of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union of Indiana. The convention was held at the First Christian Church in Frankfort from October 8 to 10. The Women of the Moose will hold memorial services for Mrs. Roy August at 7 o’clck this evening at the Zwick funeral home. Coworkers wishing to take part have been asked to meet at the Moose home at 6:45 p.m.

NORTHWEST PTA TO HOLD CARNIVAL NOV. 1 A large crowd attended the Northwest PTA meetting Thursday evening in theschool auditorium. Rev. Gerald Gerig opened the meeting with inspirational devotions. The program consisted of Clint Reed, music director, giving an illustration of progress in teaching music appreciation from the Ist to the sth grades Miss Nancy Bennett, speech therapist, giving an interesting interpretation of her work with children that have speech defects and hearing problems. James Borchers, president, presided at the business meeting. Plans were revealed for the Northwest PTA carnival to be held Friday Nov. 1, at 5:30 p.m. The affair will feature a variety of food and entertainment for all age groups. Proceeds of the carnival will be used for the purchase of playground equipment, bicycle racks, etc. The public is invited and an enjoyable evening is promised for all who attend. GOOD ATTENDANCE AT REBEKAH MEETING The Olive Rebekah Lodge met Tuesday evening with a large group in attendance. The group’s next meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 22. with a short meeting planned as the members are going to friendship night at Zanesville. Inside guard Beveral Bassett and pianist Miss Vera Fisher were special guests at the recent meeting. RACHAEL CIRCLE MEETING IS HELD THURSDAY The Rachael Circle of the Decatur E.U.B. church met Thursday evening with Mrs. Norma Roop. Mrs. Liz Koons gave the lesson entitled “A Pattern of Purposes,” and also read an article from the World Evangel, “Christian Responsibility—How Do I Fit In?” “A Charge to Keep I Have,” was sung by theg roup and in closing the group repeated the Lord’s Prayer. During the business meeting, Mrs. Koons thanked the ladies who contributed food for the fall institute and Mrs. Joan Koos explained the project for the world community day service. Mrs. Roop served dessert to the five members present. Mrs. Helen Hutker will be hostess in November. Mrs. Ralph Allison will be hostess to the Evening Circle of the First Methodist church Monday at 8 p.m. Births At the Adams county memorial hospital: Menas and Susan Schwartz Wickey, route 1, Berne, are the parents of a six pound, three and onehalf ounce baby girl, born at 8:58 p.m. Friday. A seven pound, six and one-half ounce baby girl was born at 9:28 p.m. Friday to Carl and Ethel Rhoads Caudle, route 7, Fort Wayne.

HALLOWEEN MOTIF AT CLUB MEETING Gaily decorated in a Halloween motif, the Magley recreation center was the scene of the October meeting of the ONO home demonstration club— Members came masked with Mrs. Clara Ewel wining a price tor the prettiest costume and Mrs. Don Haines, the funniest costume. ■ , '' The presidents, Mrs. Don Jeffrey, opened the meeting by having the members repeat the club creed. Roll call was answered by “What I want most for my children.” The county constitution was read. Mrs. Morris Kruckeberg read an article “Prayer of a Nun” for devotions. During the business meeting the Christmas Carnival to be held Oct. 15 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Co-op was stressed. Thank you letters were read from Mrs. Clara Ewel for her recent housewarming 'and from the Fort Wayne State school for clothing, toys, and magazines collected in a recent drive by the club. It was decided to contribute $15.00 to the Vera Cruz Opportunity school. The second half of the lesson “Family Food 6 * Needs” was given by Mrs. Don Menter. Proper diet for teenagers, young mothers, and older women was stressed. The meeting was closed with the .club collect. During the social hour, secret pal gifts were received by Mrs. Bill Lister, Mrs. Carl Menter, Mrs. Jim Merriman, and Mrs. Roy Bieberich. Connie Durr presented a twirling exhibition and then each member had to try her skill at twirling. Mrs. Lister won the prize fbr this contest. Other contest prize winners were Mrs. Merle Terhune and Mrs. Don Werling. Mrs. Werling also won the door prize. Dividing into three teams the members held a scavenger hunt outside. Mrs. Don Menter won a cake during a cake walk. Refreshments were served at a long table marked with individual favors of skeletons and pumpkins to the 15 members and one guest present. Continue Roundup In Anderson Drug Case ANDERSON, Ind. (UPD— Anderson police, hoping to dry up a major source of such illegal drugs as barbiturates and "pep pills,” today began a roundup of 30-40 persons believed to have purchased drugs from an elderly 10-. cal physician. "Die physician, 82-year-old Dr. Seth Irwin, and his housekeeper, Mary Wagoner, 63, were charged with illegal possession of dangerous drugs following a raid Friday on their home. Inspector Robert- Graham said Irwin cooperated with the radiers and led them to the drugs which were stuffed in mattresses, drawers and “almost every nook and cranny” in the rundown house. Graham said, however, that Irwin “isn’t saying much" although Mrs. Wagoner admitted her part in the illegal drug traffic.

Fort Wayne Center Enrollment 1,166 Enrollment in credit courses at Fort Wayne center of Purdue University reached a total of 1,166 for the fall semester. Noland T. Cooper, registrar, announced today. « , , The enrollment is, lower by 51 students that it. was a year ago. Girl Scouts Troop 118 Troop 188's second meeting opened with the Girl Scout promise. Louann Becker was elected as the troop’s treasurer, and each patrol discussed plans for a hayride or camping tripin the near future. The meeting was closed with “Taps.” Scribe, Georgia Gase Brown Troop 547 Brownie Scout troop 547 met Friday after school. The members worked at making centerpieces. The Brownie promise was made. Scribe, Nancy Basham. Junior Troop Junior Girl Scout troop 672 met recently in the basement of St. Mary’s church. Election of officers was held. Joyce Wolpert, Louise Butler and Rose Marie Colchin were elected patrol leaders. Louise Bulter was elected troop treasurer and Diane Lindahl was elected scribe. After the business meeting the members traveled by car to the home of Mrs. James Roop, where they were shown the Roops' collection of shells, stones, snakes and insects. Last week the group visited the shrine of Our Lady at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Foos Mrs. Foos served refreshments to the group. Guests were Rt. Rev Msgr. Schmitt, Father Ueber I Father Fekete, Sister Vera and Sister Helen Marie. This week, October 9, the troop met in the basement of the church. Members received their scout books and turned in peanut orders. Plans for investure ceremony and a Halloween party were made. Each patrol was assigned duties for the party. The meeting was closed by the singing of taps. Scribe, Dianne Lindahl. Richard Miller On Training Maneuver FORT HOOD, Tex. (AHTNCi — Army Pfc. Richard A. Miller, son of Mrs. Hugh Landis, route 4, Decatur, Indiana., participated with other members of the Ist Armored Division in Exercise Thunder, a four-day armor and infantry field training maneuver conducted by the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Tex. During the exercise, which ended Oct. 4, Miller’s unit formed a part of the aggressor force. The 24-year-old soldier, a radio repairman in Headquarters Company, Ist Battalion of the division's 13th Armor at Fort Hood, entered the Army in January, 1962, and completed basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He is a 1956 graduate of Adams Central high school in Monroe. Decatur Resident Is Bitten By Dog Friday Marne Borror, 304 N. Fourth St., reported to the city police at 10:16 p. m. Friday she had been bitten by a dog. The local lady was bitten on the left thighr by the animal in the 600 block of N. 12th St. The dog is owned by Julian Cramer, 650 N. 12th St., who told the investigating officer the dog had had its rabies shots but that he would keep it tied up for two weeks. Scheduled Scout Camporee Cancelled Because of the danger of fire due to the extreme drought, the Limberlost district Boy Scout camporee at the Ouabache state park in Wells county, has been postponed. The camporee had been scheduled for Friday, today and Sunday.

Miss Linda Jackson Honored At College INDIANAPOLIS — Miss Linda Carolyn Jackson of Decatur, was recognized for scholastic achieve-1 ment last year at Indiana Central I College at the annual fall honors day convicatjon Oct. 11.
