John S. Sheets In States Alter Tour John S. Sheets John Samuel Sheets, LI-SN, a j member of the ” United States 1 Navy is presently in the United 1 States, after arriving Sept. 4 from a six months cruise in the Mediterrean. Sheets came aboard the U. S.S. Enterprise, which he writes is the largest aricraft afloat in the world, in Cannes, France, on i July 18 of this year, starting his two years active duty. He works in the ship print shop, where he is an artist and has drawn numerous items and articles for the Enterprise. He ali so prints the ship newspaper, entitled the “Big E,” operates the press. Multitype offset press, camera, engraver and other devices. One of his main duties is enI craving name tags and door tags for officers of the Enterprise. Second Cruise I The recent six-months cruise i.| took him to Snain. Greece. ! France, Italv. and Morocco. The | Enterprise will return to the same area for a six months cruise in February of next year. The ship is currently stationed at Fleet Landings Naval Base, Norfolk. Va. The Enterprise has over 5,000 men and can travel around the world a number of times without ■ refueling, according to a recent letter from Sheets which was writ- ; ten to his father, Everett Sheets of Decatur. Mr. and Mrs. Windson Cravens .attended the Michigan-Navy foot’ball game in Ann Arbor Saturday. They also visited with their daughter, Cynthia who is a freshman at the university of Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sefton arjd granddaughter, Julia Ann Stout, spent Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hoffman of Kirkland township. Leon Hilyard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hilyard, 1339 Master Drive, has been appointed photographer for the newspaper and yearbook at Tri-State college where he is a student. David Isch is a patient at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne, where he is being held for observation. Mrs. G. D. Mac Lean, 333 KemI per Lane, entered eleven flowers in the Berne flower show. She returned with eleven ribbons, seven blue, for first place, one red, for I second, an<j three yellow for third I place.
