Miss Barbara Ann Freeman, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Stahl, 1216 Master Drive, is one of the contestants in the Junior Miss Indiana contest at the Bluffton Street Fair. She is a senior at Lancaster high school and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Freeman, route 4, Bluffton. EMMAUS GUILD HOLDS “GET ACQUAINTED NIGHT” The Emmaus Guild held a “get acquainted night” at the Zion Lutheran parish hall. Mrs. Lloyd Bowman led the devotions. Thirty-five members and two guests answered roll call. The two guests, Mrs. Pat Nelson and Mrs. Arthur Bieberich, joined later in the evening. Mrs. Carl Reinking gave an interesting report on the eighth -annual Christian growth institute. The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer and was turned over to the entertainment committee. Several games were played before the lunch was served from a table beautifully decorated with colorful flowers. The hostesses for the evening were Henritta Snively, Catherine Cauble, Charmain Hoffman, Miriam Ludwig, and Jean Wolfe. The K. of C. auxiliary will meet Tuesday at the K. of C. hall at 8 p. m. Following the meeting there will be special entertainment and a luncheon. • The St. Vincent DePaul society will meet Wednesday at 2 p. m at the C. L. of C. Hall.

WOMEN OF MOOSE MEET THURSDAY EVENING The Women of the Moose met at the Moose home Thursday evening, with senior regent Mrs. Charles Haney in charge. It was reported that recorder Edna Kingsley attended a chapter meeting ip Denver, Colo., while vacationing there. Junior graduate regent Mrs. Herbert Fravel has been invited to give the response at the state conference to be held in Indianapolis, October 18, 19 and 20. Senior regent Mrs. Charles Haney and recorder Edna Kingsley will attend as delegates from Decatur chapter 625. Following the meeting a social hour was enjoyed. The next meeting will be held October 3 at which time there will be formal .enrollment. STUDY CLUB ENJOYS CARRY-IN DINNER The Church Mothers’ Study club met at the Bethany E.U.B. church Tuesday evening for a catry-in dinner. There were ten members and one guest, Mrs. John Brunso, present. The meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Karl Johnson. Mrs. Fuhrman Miller led the devotions using as her topic “Did My Soul Catch Up With My Body.” The hostesses for the evening were the officers, the Mesdames Richard Collins, Loren Arnold, Wayne Brunner, and Richard Young. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Raymond Walters, October 15 CLUB CREED OPENS MEETING The Decatur Home Demonstration club met at the C. L. of C. hall for their September meeting, Thursday, with Mrs. Ralph Roop presiding. The meeting was opened by repeating the club creed and the pledge to the flag. Mrs. Gregg Zimmerman led the devotions, reading from Mark 23 and a poem entitled “Don’t Carry the Burdens of Tomorrow.” Mrs. Melvin Hanni, music chairman, gave the history of the song of the month, “I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen," and led the group in singing it. Mrs. Roop accompanied them on the piano. “Happy Birthday” was sung to Mrs. Bert Haley, Mrs. Clarence Smitley, Mrs. Frank Crist, Mrs. Louis Landenau, and Mrs. William Kohls. Mrs. Roop and Mrs. Haley gave the lesson on food for fitness. Twenty-eight members answered roll call by telling “how I can help the teacher.” The Mesdames Henry Adler, George Squier and William Kohls were appointed to the nominating committee by Mrs. Roop. Mrs. Frank Crist conducted th eauction. Delicious refreshments were served by the Mesdames Frank Butler, Robert Garard, William Kohls, O. K. Baker, and Daise Rhodes. PLEASANT MILLS W.S.C.S. MEETS WEDNESDAY EVENING The Pleasant Mills Methodist W. S. C. S. met Wednesday evening at the church. The basement was beautifully decorated for a birthday party and each member attending received a rain cap. The meeting was opened with the song, “Stand Up For Jesus.” Mrs. Leland Ray gave an interesting lesson on the woman’s society in her church. Prayer was offered by Mrs. Elmer Golliff. It was announced that the meeting “Day Apart” would be held at the Christ Methodist church in Fort Wayne. During the business meeting conducted by Mrs. Ray it was announced that the call to prayer and self-denial would be held a' the church October 25. The meeting closed with the group singing “Breathe on Me Breath of God.” Refreshments were served by the Mesdames Will Evans, Mary Custer and Vernon Hirschy. The Eta Tau Sigma sorority will meet Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Louis Smitley, at 8 p.m

MISS MARJORIE ELIZABETH COOK, a Warsaw junior high school English teacher for the past two years, has received a three-year post graduate national defense education act fellowship for advanced study in English at Southern Illinois University. Beginning work this fall, Miss Cook will work toward both the master of arts and the doctor of philosophy degrees in English. She is a 1961 B. A. summa cum laude graduate of Taylor University and valedictorian of both her high school and college graduating classes. Cook plans to re-enter the teaching profession when she has finished her current studies. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cook, Claypool, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Emily R. Biehold, Decatur.
ROSARY SOCIETY HOLDS OPENING MEETING The Rosary society held its first meeting of the fall season Monday evening at the K. of C. hall. The meeting was opened with the recitation of the rosary led by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Simeon Schmitt. After the regular reports were given it was announced' that a bazaar and style show will be held Thursday, November 14. Fashions for children, teenagers, and ladies will be shown by several of Decatur’s leading stores. All ladies of the parish are requested to donate articles for the bazaar proceeding the style show Miss Joan Gase gave a report of the week she spent in Chicago attending the Summer schoo l of Catholic action. Some of the topics of the sessions she attended were “Catholics on Public Campus,” “Communism Convent Maker,” and “Training to be a modern Apostle.” During the social hour the Rev. Eugene Fekete showed colored slides of the decication of the national shrine of Our Lady at Washington D. C Alice Fullenkamp and her committee served refreshments. EVANGELINE CIRCLE MEETS AT MOSER HOME The September meeting of the Evangeline Circle of the Zion United Church of Christ was held at the home of Mrs. Don Moser with seventeen members present. The lesson taken from the book entitled, 1 “Who Cares,” was presented by Mrs. Vernon Luginbill. There were 59 social and 56 sick cat'll- made by the members during the summer months. After the business meetings fall favors were made by the members for the hospital trays. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Don Moser and Mrs. Bob Kershner. PINOCHLE CLUB MEETS THURSDAY Mrs. Herbert Banning, Sr., was hostess last evening to the Pinochle club. Delicious refreshments were served from tables decorated with flowers and candles, with the flowers serving as favors for each—member. Prizes were furnished by Mrs. Raymond McDougal. Next month’s meeting will begin with a buffet lunch at 6 p.m. at the home of Mrs. McDougal. Mrs. Robert Ashbaucher will furnish the prizes.

Junior Miss Indiana Crowning Saturday « A field of 26 high school senior girls from throughout • the state will begin a round of parades and performances today at the Bluffton street fair, climaxed by one being awarded the title of “Junior Miss Indiana" Saturday night. Four of the contestants are from Adams county high schools and are vying for the title and the 31,000 scholarship which will accompany it. Lesser prizes will go to several; runners-up and the winner of the talent competition Saturday afternoon. The Decatur entrants are: Miss Adams county, Dianne Kay I Miller, 17, route 5, Decatur, a sen-i ior at Monmouth high school. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Miller, she has blue eyes & brown hair, is 5-feet-21i inches tall and weighs 108. She will do a hillbilly monologue in the talent show. Debbie Smith, 17, route 4, Decatur, a blonde with blue-green eyes I who stands 5-feet-4'/2-inches and weighs 107. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark W. Smith, she attends Adams Central high school and will do a twirling act in the talent show. Marilyn Knudsen, 17, a senior at Decatur high school, who has brown eyes and hair, stands 5-feet--6 and weighs 120. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Knudsen, 341 S. Fifth, she will do a recitation in the talent show competition. Judy Hirschy, 16, route 4. Bluff-; ton, a senior at Adams Central high school and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin M. Hirschy. /She has blue eyes, medium brown hair, stands 5-feet-lVz and weighs 113. She will sing in the talent show. Contestants will make their first appearance in the “Introduction to Beauty" parade at 2 p. m. today, i escorted along the route by the DeI catur high' school band. Tonight at 8 o’clock they will appear in sports wear on the reviewing stand on South Main street in Bluffton for a “Pageant of Beauty.” Saturday at 1 p. m. the girls, dressed in evening gowns, will again ride the parade route, led by the Berne high school band. From there they will go to the Bluffton Community building for the talent show beginning at 2 p. m. The show is open to the public for a fee and will last approximately two hours. After the talent part of the competition ends and before “coronation hour” at 8 p. m. Saturday on the reviewing stand, the entrants will select, a “Miss Cpngeniality” from their group and attend a dinner in their honor. David Lister arrived as Baer Field Thursday afternoon from Boston, Mass., to spend 10 days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Lister of Preble, before leaving for his next duty station at the U. S. Naval Examination Center, Great Lakes, 111. Franklin Baker of Decatur has been readmitted to the Clinic hospital in Bluffton for extensive i treatment for cryptococrossis i meningitis. Baker is the father of Ottis Baker, Longansport; Elbora Brady, Sparta. Wis., and Edith Kling of Decatur. His condition is regarded as very serious.
