Lane, district manager of social security in the Fort Wayne area, said today in releasing annual county benefit data. The new monthly figures represent an increase of about nine per cent over the corresponding period last year in the eight-county area served by the Fort Wayne district office. “This increase can be attributed to the changes in the law in recent ‘ years, as well a6 to the growth of our aged population,” Mrs. Lane said. “This money stimulates county business; most of it is spent for food, clothing, and shelter.” “Unquestionably,” she added, "social security benefits are helping to stabilize the income and spending power of many residents In the Fort Wayne area.” Over 2,060 Here Monthly benefits first became payable in January, 1940, and they have continued without interruption, accompanied by a steady growth in the number of beneficiaries.
