One of the most important human qualities is confidence — the basis of our relationship with other people. We must have confidence in people if we live effectively. We must also inspire confidence in people if we would live effectively. Genuine confidence is based upon the kind of people we really are. It is never created nor developed by sham or show. It belongs to the inner group of values which we call spiritual. Confidence is best created and developed by the presence of God’s spirit in our lives. Jesus likened this quality to the light which shines from our lives to men. No superficial, selfish living can insipre real confidence.

Evangelicals in El Salvador are building a new 5,000-watt radio station facility. Transmitters are located on the campus of an Assemblies of God school in the suburbs of San Salvador. Participating in the project are technicians from Latin America Mission, and Central American Mission, as well as personnel from American Baptist and Church of God missions. Under the auspices of the Brazilian Confederation of Churches, the Evangelical Literacy Department launched recently a crusade to open at least one literacy class in every Protestant church of Brazil. The greatest help in* the crusade will be the new Portuguese' literacy primer ABC whose first edition was four million copies. This primer was prepared in 1961 by a group bt twenty Brazilian teachers, pastors and missionaries in a literacy workshop at MacKenzie University of Sao Paulo. Gideons International has provided a Bible for every room of 100 West Berlin hotels. Representatives of the Gideons presented a special English and German edition of the Bible to the West Berlin government. A nonprofit organization founded by Christian businessmen in Wisconsin 63 years ago, Gideons International has over 22,000 members in some 20 countries. Headquarters are in Chicago. The group has distributed over 52,000,000 Bibles and Scripture portions in more than 60 countries. THE BETTER WAY William Barclay, wise Scottish writer, has a rich word of advice for us all, old and young: “It would be a startling thing if we kept a record of how we spent our time as the bank keeps a record of how we spend our money. Each day is a cheque drawn on our capital of time, and no man can live on his capital forever. “As we grow older, and as time grows ever shorter, I think that there are certain things which we should remember. “We should never leave things half-finished — in case they are never finished. “We should carefully choose what we are going to do —for there is no longer time to do everything, -and we should do the things which really matter. “We should never come to the end of a day with a quarrel or a difference or a breach between us and any fellow-man —for it may be that the quarrel will never be mended and the breach will never be closed. “And yet, with all this, we must avoid all sense of frantic haste and hurry. Even if there be much ■ to do and little time in which to do it, there still remains the necessity of stillness and quiet and rest and meditation and communion with God. “No man should ever be so busy acting that he has no time for thinking, or so busy working that he has no time for praying. “As we grow older, there is an ever greater necessity for the life in which haste and idleness • have no place, but in which all things are done in the light of eternity.”

The Church Invites You Theodore Roosevelt felt it to be of utmost importance to attend church and be active in the life of the church. He said, “In this actual world, a churchless community ' where men have abandoned or ignored their religious needs, is a community on the rapid downgrade. Church work and church attendance mean the cultivation of the habit of feeling some responsibility for others. By attending church, one will listen to and take part in > reading some beautiful passages from the Bible and if he is not familiar with the Bible, he has suffered a loss. He will take part in singing some good hypins. He tfill meet and nod or speak to some good, quiet neighbors. He will come away from church feeli ing a little more charitable to : ward all the world.” WHY NOT ACCEPT THE INVI- ; TATION AND COME TO CHURCH . NEXT SUNDAY? A HAPPY HOME Those in position to observe young people today realize how capable they are of rising to heights older persons never dreamed of, and of going faster in the areas of degradation than others are capable of. At the turn of the fourteenth century, Marco Polo • observed: “This younger generation has no direction and will surely end up poorly due to their lack of morality and laziness.” History has away of reminding us that youth “are not all going to hell in a handbasket.” We clear the shadows of misunderstanding from our eyes and see fine wholesome qualities in these impetuous, restless, talented, inspiring people called youth. Yet, there are some real dangers in the assumption that nothing basically has changed in the affairs of men. The world today, the world of the bomb, the rocket, United Nations, mass communications, presents new situations, a new environment. The youth of today have questions to answer and problems to face we could not imagine when we were children. We cannot sit back with a false assurance that life will take care of itself; if we do, our original trepidations will be justified. We are responsible to God and to our children to help them find God and in finding God, they will find themselves. I _ ' ■hmhhhhmmbhhhbhhhhmmhmi DISTRIBUTORS OF MOBILGAS - MOBILOH PETRIE OIL CO. Cor.
