Two Brothers Tops City Softball Loop Two Brothers had extended its lead in the city softball league to two full games, according to league statistics released today. The defending regular season and tournament champions from last season own a 9-1 mark for a two-game lead over second place McMillen, which has a 7-3 mark. Adams County Trailer Sales and Decatur Casting Co. are both three and one-half games back with 5-4 records, and Citizens Telephone Co. and K of C. share the celler with 1-8 records, seven and one half games off the pace. Banning of Citizens continues to lead the league in hitting with a 5:79 mark on 11 hits in 19 trips. Shaffner of the Casting Co. is hitting an even .500 and Carr of Citizens .478. Gibbons and Linn of Two Brothers are hitting .464 and .458 .respectively. Jim Voglewede and Lautzenhsier of McMillen and Decatur Casting, respectively, top the league in homers with three apiece, and Willy Conrad of Two Brothers is the top RBI man with 14. Harding of Citizens is second with 11. Lester Linn of Two Brothers is the circuit’s top hurler with a perfect 9-0 mark for the season. Laurie Meyer of McMillen also is unbeaten, winning all three starts. Linn has compiled 59 strikeouts’ wihle Lee Hoopingarner, who has a 4-1 record for the Trailer Sales, has 34. Pony League Plays Twin Bill Monday - > The Cubs Pony League team members are asked to report to Worthman field between 7 and 7:15 p. m. Monday. WhileSoxUp Little League Lead Friday The White Sox blasted the Senators by a 12-1 score Friday night and boosted their league lead to two full games over the Indians, as they chalked up their eighth victory against only one loss. Rick Archer won his fourth con- ' test of the season without a loss, twirling a nifty three hitter at the Senators in leading the Sox to their eighth victory in a row. A single by Dan Pettibone in the second inning, which eventually led to the only Senator run, and singles by Dan Mcßride and Hackman in the fifth inning were-Jhe only Senator hits of the evening. Cubs Defeat « . -— ' - Cardinals In ~ Pony League ~A A four-run fifth inning carried the Decatur Cubs to a 7-5 win over the Decatur Cardinals in an Adams county Pony League game at Worthman field Friday evening. The win-boosts the league-lead-ing Cubs’ record to five wins and two losses, while the Candinals suffered their fifth loss agairist four wins. The Cubs had taken a one-run lead in the first inning when Bill Brown walked, stole second and scored on a wild throw, but Steve Burger blasted a two-out home run in the second inning with the bases empty to tie the score. The Cards moved into a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Dave Anderson singled and Gary Busse walked. Both rode home on a long double by Rick Hullinger, who later scored on a wild toss to third. A single through the middle by first baseman Don WilEams cut the margin to 4-3 in the Cub half of the fourth. Dun Kable and Denny Sheets, who had walked, scored on Williams’ two-out blow. Bill Brown-led off the Cub fifth with a single and Walks to Doug Spaulding and Lon Hawkins leaded the bases. After a strikeout, Kable and Sheets drew walks to force in two runs, and Williams walked after two were out to force in a third run. Kable then scored on a wild pitch, giving the Cubs a 7-4 lead. The Cards got one run back in the sixth on a single by Busse and a triple by Burger, but were held* in check the rest of the way by Hawkins, Cub hurler. Tawkins struck out eight, walked only one and iht two Tom T,ose. Braves Lose To Geneva In Pony League A seventh-inning rally fell three runs short and the Decatur Braves were downed by Geneva, l|-8, in a county Pony League tilt at the Geneva diamond Friday evening. Using six hits and 12 Brave errors, the Geneva nine built up an 11-3 lead after six innings of play. The Braves rallied for five tollies in the top of the seventh, but fell short by three runs. Four walks and singles by Kip Lutes, Tom Blythe and Nick Smitley resulted in the five runs by the Braves in the seventh. Geneva scored twice in the first inning on a walk, two errors, and Armstrong’s single. Ten Young Golfers To Compete Sunday Ten young locator golfers will tee off Sunday for the right to ; represent Decatur in the state Junior Chamber of Commerce golf 1 meet at LaPorte this month. Four boys will tee off at 12:30 p. m., including Doug Spaulding, Steve Doty, Mike Schnepf and David Snell. Teeing off at 12:36 will be Jerry Morningstar, Gary Schultz and Ed Cravens, and at 12:42 will be Alan Kalver, Sim Hain, and Barry Burnett. They are asked to report at 12 noon Sunday. The 18 holes will be played Sunday with no handicap and under USGA rules, with trophies to be presented to the medalist and run-ner-up. The trophies have been

Travel to LaPorte The top two finishers will qualify to represent Decatur in the state Jaycee meet at LaPorte Wednesday, July 24, through Friday, July 26. ' The tournament was opened to all boys between the" ages of 12 and 18 years. Kenneth Nash is tlie Jaycee in charge of the project. The local Jaycee organization •will cover all expenses incurred by the two boys during the three-day affair at LaPorte.
