Johnson Will Head School In Tehran
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnson and their three children will leave in the near future for Tehran, Iran, where Johnson will be principal of the' privately-sponsored American school. Mrs. Johnson is the former Neva Li Crbwnover, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Crownover, of Monroe. — At Elkhart , For the past three years Johnson has worked in the Concord metrojßilitan schools. Elkhart, as an elementary coordinator in that system. The school in Tehran is privately supported, but does include as pupils from the American embassy and from the American service personnel on advisory duty in that country. The American school has an enrollment of 900 American youngsters and is staffed with 55 teachers, three of whom hold doctoral degrees in their fields. Family Accompanies © • Mrs. Johnson will also teach in the school. The family which will accompahy their parents, includes three daughters: Cynthia, 12; Shelly, 3%, and Jana, 19 months. The family will sail from New York July 9 on the T.S.S. Olympia and will stop at the following ports of call: Lisbon, Portugal; Naples, Italy; Messina, Sicily; Piraeus (Athens), Greece; Limassol, Cyprus, and Haifa, Israel. Leaving the ship at Haifa, they will travel to Tel Aviv by train, and then proceed by Air France jet airplane to Tehran, Iran, arriving in that city July 23. Iran Described Iran is a constitutional monarchy, contains 636.293 square miles, larger than Alaska and Indiana combined, with a population of nearly 21 million people, more than

Thomas Johnson Family Johnson, daughters Shelly, Cynthia, and Jana, and wife Neva. Indiana, Illinois and Michigan; Tehran, the city where the family will be located, is 29th in size in the world, with 1,838,982 inhabitants, just a little smaller than Philadelphia Pa. Tehran is in northern Iran, about 100 miles south of the Caspian sea, the world’s largest inland saltwater lake. The city lies at the north edge of the great, dry Iranian plateau, just below the hign, steep slopes of the Elburz mountains. Bordering Iran on the north is the Soviet Union. Many of the earliest sites of civilization lie <n south Iran. Present plan's call for the family to spend two years in Iran. Monroe Graduate Prior to the Elkhart position, Johnson held principalships and school posts at Parker, Muncie, Winchester and Elkhart. From 1943-5 he was a member of the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a 1943 graduate of Monroe high school, a 1949 graduate of Ball State Teacher? pillage, and a 1955 recipient of« the : master of arts degree from Ball State. Open Class Dairy Show Scheduled August 2 Announcement was made today by Ben Mazelin that the Adams county open class Airy show will be held August 2 at the 4-H fairgrounds. This will be the second annual open dairy show. Entry blanks have been sent to dairy cattle owners so they can plan on the show. Anyone interested in the show may contact Ben Mazelin, Edison Lehman, secretary, or the county extension office. Traffic Regulation Approved By State The division of traffic of the Indiana state highway commission has established new traffic regulations oq 13th street in Decatur in the interest of safety and convenience of highway motorists, it was announced this morning. A provided by the commission’s new regulation, parking shall be restricted on U. S. 27 as follows: No parking at any time on the east side of 13th street (U. S. 27), from the south end of curbs, near the city limits, to Monroe street (U. S. 224). The new no parking zone covers a distance of approximately 2,660 feet. The local city council had recently requested the state commission to approve its no parking zone on the east side of 13th street. The regulations were approved by Clinton A. Venable, chief of the division of traffic, and George Goodwin, executive director, under the authority of the Indiana state highway commission to adopt and promulgate traffic regulations. Charles F. Spuller Dies In Michigan Charles F. Spuller, 81, of Scottsville, Mich., a former Adams county resident, died Wednesday at the Stearn hospital in Ludington, Mich., after a year’s illness. Survivors 'include a sister, Mrs. Clara Dague of Decatur. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stephens funeral home in Scottsville, the Rev. Kenneth Snow officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. To Dedicate Berne Church On Sunday Dr. James E. Wagner, vice-presi-dent of Ursinus College, Pennsylvania, and former co-presMent of’ the United Church of Christ, bis been announced as the speaker for dedication services at the new Cross United Church in Berne at 10 a.m. Sunday. Rev. Henry Kroehler, president of the Michigan-Indiana synod of the Evangelical and Reformed church, will also appear in the service. Jerry Fluecklger, a member of the congregation, will be ordained into the ministry during the evening service. He is taking up the pastorate of a parish in Van Wert. aft ft

Youth Injured In Truck-Scooter Wreck Clinton L. Mankey, 16-year-old resident of route 1, Decatur, was taken to a Bluffton hospital Thursday evening in a state of shock, after a pick-up truck-motor scooter accident. The mishap occurred at 5:25 p. m. Thursday, in Magley at the intersection of U. S. 224 and county road 39. Mankey was riding his motor scooter north on the county road, and apparently failed to see an eastbound pick-up truck driven by Robert Deward Colter, 45, 253 N. Fifth St., Decatur, on the highway. Mankey apparently pulled into the path of the Colter vehicle. Colter pulled to the left in attempting to avoid striking the scooter, but was unsuccessful. k The young man was taken to a Bluffton hospital but was not believed injured any more than slightly, although he was in shock. Deputy sheriff Harold August and state trooper Dick Meyers investigated, estimating $95 damage to the pick-up and S4O to the scooter. Bible Schoo! Gives Program On Sunday I The community Bible school of the Salem Methodist church will present its closing program at the church Sunday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. Clifford Roe served as director of the school, assisted by Larry Merriman and the pastor, Roe was secretary - treasurer, and the Rev. Joseph Gibson. Linda Larry Merriman and Ruth Riley were in charge of the music. The program will open with the group marching in while singing “Assurance’ march, followed by pledges to the flag and the Bible. Choruses will be sung by the group, following by prayer by the pastor. Class I — Teacher Mrs. Mytre Schug, helpers Kathy Christman and Linda Roe: song, “Jesus Loves Me;” choruses, Bible verses; girl’s trio, Sherrie Christman, Deanne Gaunt and Pam Bryan; recitation, Cindy Hart. Safe Driver Awards To Berne Carriers Three employes of the Berne post office were recently presented with safe driver awards by the national safety council. *• Rural carrier Raymond Beer was awarded a certificate for 24 years safe driving without an accident charge. Rural carrier Sherman Stucky was given a 20-year certificate. Paul Von Gunten, a substitute carrier, was awarded a four-year certificate.
