INITIATION AT METHODIST CHAPEL The Alpha Delta chapter of Psi lota Xi held its initiation service Tuesday evening in the Methodist chapel. Candlabraum and bouquet of yellow and aqua mums graced the altar. The initiating team consisting of Mrs. Fager, Mrs. Robert August, Mrs. William Freeby, and Miss Rosemary Gase, and the conductress, Mrs. Wiliam Hutker, initiated Elizabeth Peck, Sandra Llby, Claudia Caston, Mrs. Smith Snively, and Mrs. Thomas Grimm. Mrs. Leia' Gerber presided at the organ and the Psi Oto choir sang for this ispressive service. Immediately following the initiation service, the honoraries, actives, and initiates all motored to Hall’s Gas House at Fort Wayne for dinner. ‘Lullabye in Psi Ote Land” was the decoration theme. Yellow and aqua birdcages hung on ribbons above the tables and aqua and gold violins surrounded by black notes were the centerpieces. Each place was marked with a small bird in a grass nest. mistress, introduced Mrs. Fred Isch, outgoing president, who welcomed the new “pledgings.” Miss Elizabeth Peck gave the response. Mrs. Roger L. Stevens, incoming president was then introduced. She presented Mrs. Isch with her past president's gavel and a gift from thhe chapter. The new officers and the Trading Post officers were introduced. A pep talk on behalf of the honoraries was then given by Mrs. Faye Holthouse, a “Wise Old Owl” Mrs. Madeline Snell pre- 1 sided at a very (impressive candlelighting service at the close of the program. The entertainment was a “mock dress revue” put on by the initiates. Co-chairmen ofor the vent were Mrs. Richard Parrish and Mrs. E. E. Rydell. KUMJOIN-US CLASS PICNIC The Kum-Join-Us Class of the Decatur Bethany E. U. B. church met Monday evening at HamiaNuttman park for a picnic with the committee in charge furnishing the meat, rolls, coffee, ahd butter. Raymond Eichenauer had the devotions. He gave several selections from the book, "Seeing God In Little Things.” He stated “that we shouldn’t pack packages' to look nice only on top but that we should be alert lest we be cheated and that we have lost something when greed takes the place of liberality.” Re closed the devotions by having the group stand and pray the Lord’s Prayer. The flower committee gave a report of the cards and flowers that had been sent to the members since the last meeting. Mis. Ellsworth, president read a letter from the commission on Christian citizenship concerning floral memorials. A discussion followed and the class voted to continue as at present. Mrs. Elteworth closed the meeting with a reading; ‘"The Garden Os Good Resolutions," There were 23 members present. The committee serving were; Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Seaman; Mr. and Mrs. Don Jeffery; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Eichenauer, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hears, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barlett, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dolch, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kaehr. MERRY MATRONS CLUB HOLDS JUNE MEETING The June meeting of the Merry Matrons Home Demonstration club was held at the home of Mrs. William Boerger with Ll 6 members present. The meeting was opened with the president, Mrs. Chrl Thieme, leading the group in repeating, “Which Are You,” Mrs. Louis Krueckeberg gave the history of the song of the month, “Tell Me Why.’” Devotions were given by Mrs. Delmar Thieme. The lesson on home flower gardens was given by Mrs. Wilbert Thieme who stressed the importance of proper soil preparation. Roll call was answered by “something new from something old." Mrs. Marie Krueckeberg' and
Mi-s. Jean Krueckeberg gave a report on the Purdue conference. Plans were made for the county picnic June 27 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting closed with the club collect. The group then sang “Happy Birthday” to Mrs. Otto Thieme and “Happy Anniversary” to Mrs. Carl Thieme and Mrs. Richard Marbach. Rrfreshments were served by Mrs. Boerger ■ ,Miss Cynthia Boerger and Mrs. Delmer Thieme. The July meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Herman Bfeeke. GARDEN CLUB MEETS AT SCHERRY HOME The June meeting of the Sunbeam Garden club was held at the home of Mrs. Milton Scherry and was opened with a musical selection on the vibraharp by Mrs. Scherry and Miss Cheryl Adam. Devotions were given by Mrs. Dorothea Shady and included scripture passages dealing with God’s love and care for birds. A vocal duet entitled, “His Eye Is on the Sparrow,” was sung by Mrs. Walter Peck and Mrs. Walter Egley. Mrs. Irvin Lochner, guest speaker, presented a v e r y interesting talk on birds of Indiana and. migratory birds. The roll call was answered by the 19 members by telling of a bird seen in the garden during the past week. A report of a demonstration of floral arrangements held in Fort Wayne was given by Mrs. Forest Stern. The meeting was closed after two floral arrangements brought by Mrs. Leroy Bulmahn and Mrs. Glen Barger were studied. Delicious refreshments were then served by the hostess. i BABY SHOWER GIVEN FOR MRS. ZIMMERMAN A baby shower was given June 18 at the home of Mrs. Roger Ripley in honor of Mrs. Floyd Zimmerman. Hostesses were the women of the young married peoples class of the Nazarene church. Games were played and prizes awarded to the guest of honor. After the honored guest opened the many lovely gifts that were centered on a table decorated in pink and white, refreshments of cake and sandwiches were served to the Mesdames Roger Fry, son, Orville Sudduth, Bernard HarLloyd Zimmerman, Wilmer Watris, Bonnie Zimmerman, Thomas Hoffman, Gary Shoaf, Raymond McAhren, Glen Habegger, Leo Roe, and Miss Sharon Sudduth. « The Pythian Sisters Needle Club will meet at the Moose Home after Temple June 24 at 7:30 p.m. Hostesses for the meeting will be Mrs. Francis Howard and Mrs. Clyde Harris. Mrs. Harmon Gillig entertained the following ladies at a house party Wednesday: Mrs. Alex Miller and daughter Irene, Miss Margaret Miller, Ottoville, O.; Miss Monica Beauter, Mrs. Nora Frieberger, Fort Wayne, Mrs. C. F. Berber, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. William Kietzer, Monterey. The Jolly Housewives Home Demonstration club will hold a carry-in dinner at the Pleasant Mills Methodist church June 25 at 6:30 p.m. in commeration of their 40th anniversary year. Memmers are reminded to bring their own table service and all former members are invited to attend. The hostesses for the second three month period will provide the items for the auction. ROSE GARDEN CLUB MEETS TUESDAY Mrs. John Floyd was hostess to the Rose Garden club that met Tuesday afternoon. The meeting opened by reciting the club collect and pledge of allegiance to the flag. Mrs. Wilber Stanley, bird chairman, Mrs. Richard Mailand, conservation chairman, and Mrs. Paul Daniels, then gave Interesting reports. A demonstration on floral arrangements was given by the president, Mrs. Calvin Amick. Mrs. Mailand then presented Mrs. Amick with a president’s pin. The Garden clubs of the northeast district will honor the new state president, Mrs. Fred Ault, at a tea at the Forest Park Methodist church, corner of Forest and Kentucky Ave., Fort Wayne, June 27 at 2 p. m. Those planning to attend are asked to call 3-3273 before Saturday. The meeting closed with the club prayer. 'Die birthday'auction was conducted by Mrs. Frank Crist. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Floyd, who was assisted by Mrs. Wilber Stanley. ANNUAL PICNIC HELD BY WESLEYAN GUILD The Wesleyan Service Guild met Tuesday evening at the HannaNuttman park shelter house tor their annual picnic and fellowship. Mrs. Mary Ann Frick, Dallas, Texas, and Keiko Shimizu, who will be leaving soon for her home in Japan, were welcomed as guests. Following the picnic the group went to the home of Mrs. Noah Steury. Devotions were given by Mrs. Kathryn Helm, Mrs. Steury then showed movies and slides of the Hawaiian Islands. 'Die Sunny Circle Home Demonstration club will meet Tuesday at 8 p. m. at the Preble recreation center. The hostesses will be Mrs. Arthur Worth and Mrs. Gerhart Heckman. The Delta Theta Tau sorority members, along with eight guests, held a picnic at the home of Mrs. Forest Drver at Anthonv Wayne Meadows. Picnic tables were arranged on the spacious lawn and a delicious dinner was enjoved. Games were followed bv a short business meeting, at which time plans were made tor the fair stand next week and the dollar davs in Julv. The next meeting will be held in September. The 39’ers Club met at the Decatur Communitv Center recently for a carry-in dinner. Mrs. John Doan was in charge of the short business meeting. The next meeting will be guest night and a special program is planned. Mrs. Cora .Lautzenhiser was a guest at the meeting that was attended by 24 members. Mis. Frank Snvder joined the club at this meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Chester C. Bryan will observe their 40th wedding anniversary June 23 with a family dinner at the Dutch Mill in Bluffton. The couple were married June 23, 1923. by Bishop A. H. Johnson in the U. B. parsonage near Rockford, 0. The Bryans are the parents of five children, three sons, Doyt, of near Decatur, Richard Columbus, 0., and Ronald of near Monroe, two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Gaunt and Mrs. Arnold Roughia, fbth of Decatur. For the past 30 years they have lived on a farm in Blue Creek township that has been owned by the Bryan family since 1835. Births At the Adams county memorial hospital: Edward and Sharon Shuemaker Huey, Portland, are the parents of a baby girl weighing 7 pounds 4M> ounces and bom at 10:10 a.m. today.

Dies Os Injuries When Hit By Tree GARRETT, Ind. (UPD — John Calvin Shatto, 71, R.R. 1, Hudson, died Wednesday in Garrett Community Hospital from injuries suffered June 10 when a tree limb 1 struck him during a windstorm. Shatto’s death was the fifth blamed on the state-wide storms that day, including two in traffic, one by a lightning bolt and another by heart attack.
