White Sox And Indians Win In Little League The Indians and Red Sox finally opened their Little League seasons Thursday night, the Indians edging the Tigers, 4-2, while the Red Sox were thumped, 15-4, by the White Sox. ■ - - ' """ i The long ball again prevailed Thursday evening, with four homers hit in the two contests. Mike Schnepf hurled a three-hit-ter in handing the Tigers their first loss of the season in the opening game Thursday. Schnepf struck out eight and didn't walk a batter, losing his shutout when the Tigers scored twice in the final inning. Mike Curtin slammed a four-bag-ger on the first pitch of the game and the Indians scored a second run in the first inning and never trailed. They added a run in the third on a single by Allan Bedwell, and their fourth run in the sixth on another single by Bedwell. Schnepf scored on each of Bedwell’s singles, as the Indian pitcher had reached base both times on errors. M _»r- -• --14 Kuin anutotit _ f A fielder’s choice, a single by Steve Brown and Tim Bolinger’s double ruined Schnepf s bid for a shutout in the sixth inning. Alan Hutker was also sharp on the mound for the Tigers, allowing only four hits, striking out 12 and he too didn’t issue a base on balls. Big Tom Schultz’s third home run of the week and another fourbase blast by Rick Archer featured the White Sox win over the Red Sox. Lead Early The Red Sox took a 2-1 lead in the first inning on Ken Gause's two-run home run, but the White Sox bounced back with four runs in the second inning, two more in the third, and added five in the fourth to coast home for the win. Righthander Dave Winteregg received credit for the victory, going the full six innings and allowing only two hits, both by Gaus? who added asingle to his home run in the fifth inning. Archer blasted his home run with a mate aboard in the third inning, and Schultz cracked his with a man on in the fifth. Winteregg aided his own cause with two singles and a double in five trips. Two games are on tap this evening. with the Senators and Red Sox meeting at 6 p. m., and the Yankees and Indians tangling in the second affair.
