LOCAL PUPILS IN PIANO AUDITION Mrs. E. M. Webb, piano teacher of Berne and the Deactur Music House, presented 28 of her pupils in the national piano auditions at the Castle Studio in Fort Wayne Tuesday. Mrs. Marian Gabriel from New Jersey was the judge. Three received the rarely given “critics circle rating’’, which is 98% and over. They were Cheryll Martin and Rita Spence of Decatur, and Lana Sprunger, Berne. The pupils were judged on 30 to 40 phases of playing and received “superior” and "excellent” scores. Besides early and late classics, romantic and modern pieces and scales, chords and candences made up the program. Players making the local honor roll with two or three numbers were Sandra and Susan Singleton, Nancy Fifer, Karen and Sharon Webb, Debra Germann, Kirby Stetler, Ann Bultimeier, and Becky Hagan. Four or five entries placed Barbara Steury and Lana Rich on the district honor roll. The state honor roll was reached by Cheryll Martin and Rita Spence. Twelve of the twenty-eight players were from Berne, six “local,” three "district” and three “state.” Some 350 students of the national guild in northern Indiana, western Ohio and southern Michigan will be playing in the auditions sometime during the next two weeks. Fort Wayne is one of several hundred audition centers in the world. For Father NOW. o bright new day in PICTURE-TAKING PLEASURE! ■ HEM | KODAK IniGunatio t Cameras UHs KOMME CsrtrMft... A final check of donations to wind up the crusade turned up the total amount, which was discovered to be just S2OO short of the goal, Mrs. Krueckeberg explained. _ The Adams county chapter of the American Cancer society would like very much to reach the goal this year, she explained, and it is hoped that any local residents, businesses, etc., who have not donated would do so, toward putting the drive over the top. Two Youths Drown In Northern Indiana By United Press International Two youths drowned in Indiana Thursday, one of them while wading in a river and the other while waterskiing in a lake. George B. Shull, 20, Fort Wayne, was found floating face down in Hamilton Lake near Angola by two companions who had been towing him on water skies. They said Shull had signalled to them to be cut loose from the towing boat, and when they returned to the area a few minutes later they found him dead. Shull was the son of George C. Shull, political writer and courthouse reporter for the Fort Wayne Jour-nal-Gazette. Authorities said it was possible the youth struck his head on or was electrocuted by a television antenna blown into the lake by last Monday’s storm. The companions, Michael Foster, 17 and John Nadolony, 15, both of Fort Wayne, were treated for shock. Tommy Dean Pancake, 13, R.R. 1, Grabill, drowned Thursday
