Pony league Games Postponed A schedule Pony-Little League doubleheader at Worthman Field this evening has been postponed due to wet grounds. The Little League Indians and Yankees were to meet in the first game, with the Cubs and Monmouth playing the second tilt. The Cubs are asked to report to McMillen Field at 1 p.m. Saturday for a practice session. All three local Pony League teams are to play a triple-header with three Fort Wbyne teams Saturday, but these games too have been postponed —due do wet grounds. Pony League Cards Whip Berne, 7- 2

The Decatur Cardinals chalked up their first victory of the season against an opening game loss Thursday, whipping Bqrne 7-2 at the latter’s diamond. The Cards, defending regular season champs, broke open a 2-2 contest in the sixth inning, scoring five times ,to ice the verdict and hand Berne its tyrst loss after a previous victory over Monmouth. 2-Run Triple A two-run triple by third baseman Steve Burger was the hig blow of the inning for the Cardinals. Ron Smith singled to open the sixth inning and Greg Litchfield walked. Burger, who had entered the gartie in the fifth inning, banged out a triple to score both Smith and Litchfield.

The Cards weren't finished, however, as walks to Dave Baughn and Dave Anderson and singles by Rick Hullinger and Gary Busse produced three more tallies. The winners scored first, tallying a run in the first inning when Dave Mankey and Baughn walked and following a double play, Tom Lose doubled to score Mankey. Berne Ties Score Berne tied the score in the third inning, using singles by N. Schwartz and Flueckiger, and took a one-run lead with a run in the fourth frame on a single by S. Steury and a double by Beitler. The Cards tied the score in the fifth inning when Lose walked, stole second and third, and scored on a balk. Lose, w'ho relieved starter George Thomas in the fifth inning, received credit for the win. Won Earlier Game The Berne Pony League team, which failed to win a game last season, opened their 1963 season with an 8-5 decision over Monmouth earlier this week. The winners took the lead with four runs in the third inning and held on for the victory, Flueckinger receiving credit for the win. 2 Home Runs By Tigers; '62 Champs Win First Game The Tigers copped their second victory without a loss in Little League play Thursday evening, drubbing the Senators 12-4, after the White Sox had chalked up their first win with a 10-3 win over the Yankees. The Tigers, who banged out four home runs in their opening night win Monday, continued to hit the long ball Thursday night, with a pair of homers resulting in five of their 12 tallies. Jim Laurent poked out a tlireerun homer in the sixth inning, his second of the season, and Pat Kohne, who was the winning pitcher, blasted a two-run homer in the third inning. The Tigers also scored five times in the fifth inning without the benefit of a hit, using five walks, an error, a batsman and a fielder’s choice to take a commanding lead. In addition to the home-run barrage, Alan Hutker chiped in with a pair of sirigles in four trips. Kohne Winner Kohne allowed the Senators only two hits, while striking out 12 and walking five. Only one of the Senators four runs was earned. The two Senator hits were a double by Greg Beery in the second inning, which accounted for a pair of runs, and a single by Dan Pettibone in the fifth. The White Sox, defending league champs, bounced back for their opening game loss to the Tigers to whip the Yankees 10-3, clinching the verdict with four runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth. —■ Yanks Lead * A walk to Ken Wolfe, an error, and a double by Jim Wolpert put the Yanks into a two-one lead in the third inning, but the Sox bounced back to score four times in their half of the third. A walk to Dave Tester and Rich Fisher’s home run tied the score in the third, and walks to Dave Winteregg and Tom Schultz and Terry Smith’s single sent two more runs home. A bases-loaded double by Winteregg. a double by Schultz and a single by Smith were the big blows in the five-run fourth frame.

There is a S3OO first place prize for the handicap affair, which is open to any sanctioned team of one man and one woman. By changing partners, bowlers may compete more than once. More than 100 local couples competed in mixed doubles leagues at thg local establishment this past season, and each is eligible to enter the event which will be conducted throughout Saturday and Sunday. Scheduled squads are at 3,5, 7, and 3 p.m. Saturday and 1, 3 and 5 on Sunday, although bowlers can enter at convenience by making arrangements at Villa Lanes.
