Jobless Pay Claims Are Little Changed The Indiana employment security division has reported a total of 50 Adams county claims for unemployment compensation for the week ending June f. Thirteen of the claims were new, while the other 37 were continued. One month ago there were 49 claims, five new and 44 continued. One year ago there were 52 claims, seven new, 42 continued and three new ones for extended coverage. Two years ago the total stood at X 35 claims. Seven of those claims were new, 85 were continued, 10 were new claims so rextened coverage and 33 were old claims for extended coverage. These figures are a good index of Adams county unemployment. There are, however, many smaller firms whose employees do not pay unemployment tax and hence are not eligible for compensation when unemployed. 27 From County At Purdue 4-H Round-up Twenty seven young people from Adams county are attending the 4-H round-up at Purdue University this week. Lightning Kills Hospital Patient LOGANSPORT, Ind. (UPI) — Jo. sei* Carbone, 52. Peru, a patient at Logansport State Hositpal, was kiled late Tuesday by-* bolt of lightning. —r Atithorities said Carbone took refuge under a tree on the hospital grounds during a thunderstorm. U. S. Again Rejects Russian Proposals GENEVA (UPI) — The United States today again rejected Soviet' proposals for general and complete disarmament, calling them "haphazard, helter-skelter and inconsistent.” American negotiator Charles C. Stelle told the 140th meeting of the 17-nation disarmament conference Soviet proposals that nuclear delivery vehicles be scrapped "in one fell swoop” would rob states of national security safeguards before complete disarmament is achieved. Instead of the complete removal of one type of weapon, either conventional or nuclear, there should be a gradual, progressive and "across the board” reduction of the military capability of states in all areas of existing armaments Stelle said. The Soviet approach, on the other hand, is "haphazard, helter-skelter and inconsistent,” Stelle added, because it ignores verification measures, the development of adequate peace-keeping machinery during the disarmament process and the importance of giving each state the chance to defend itself until there is complete disarmament. The United States proposes that 30 per cent of all major armaments be reduced in the first stage of disarmament, 50 pier cent in the second stage, and the balance of 20 per cent in the final stage. The Soviet proposals call for the almost total elimination of nuclear . delivery weapons in the first ! stage. 1
