GOLDEN AGE GROUP MEETS RECENTLY The Golden Age Group of the MethodisC church met at the country home of Mrs. D. Shady recently. The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion with a May pole in the center of the dining room. , The tables were laid with linen and centered with bouquets of pansies. Mrs. Ethel Farr, vice chairman, had charge of the meeting. Hymns were sung and Mrs. Agnes Wright gave a poem on “Golden Age” and Mrs. Shady gave one entitled, “Mother’s Love.” A delicious

PIANO RECITAL AT COMMUNITY CENTER "Die music students of Chet Longenberger gave a piano recital last Sunday at the Community Center. Those participating included John Babcock, Maryann Babcock, Mary Schroeder, Paul Schroeder, Mark Schroeder, Ellen Harmon, Vinetta Liechty, Deborah Everett, Kerry Knape, Brad Christen, Candace Railing, Pamela Bleeke, Sonja Poorman, and Dan Seltenright. DELTA THETA TAU INSTLLS OFFICERS The Delta Theta Tau sorority met at the Preble Gardens for an installation dinner party. The tables were ladd with linen with a clever place card marking the place of each guest. -A floral centerpiece of yellow and white carnations, mums and dasies, was the floral point. - Following the dinner Mrs. Jerry Bixler, president, had charge of the opening ceremony and short business meeting. Rosmary Spangler was the installing officer and installed Mrs. John McConaha, president; Mrs. Jerry Bixler, vice president; Mrs. John Baumann, treasurer; Mrs. Forrest Dryer recording secretary; Mrs. Alvin Rauch, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Wilmer Bultemeier, sergeant at arms; Mrs. Don Miiddendorf, historian; Mrs. Lyle Mallonee, pledge supervisor; Mrs. Henry Neirieter, publicity and chapter welfare. The ceremony was closed with the Delta song. Mrs. McConaha appointed the standing committee for the coming year. The comittee for the dinner party was Mrs. Robert Durbin, Mrs. Alvin Rauch, and Mrs. Don Middendorf. The June meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Leland Smith.

ATTEND CONVENTION OF BUSINESS WOMEN Mrs. Janice Kauffman, 1963-64 president of the Decatur Business and Professional Women’s club, and Mrs. Mary Howard, 1962 BPW career woman, attended the Indiana state Business and Professional Women’s club convention at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis, May 24, 25 and 26. Mrs. Kauffman accepted the award for placing third in the scrap book entry, which was compiled by Mrs. Maxine Ford, and the award for placing third in the club bulletin entry, edited by Mrs. Helen Johnson. Mrs. Howard receivedt he award for securing six new members for the club in 196263. Club presidents were honored at the banquet which was held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Saturday evening, and the world affairs breakfast held on the Indiana Roof, Sunday morning. The theme “You are the vital link” was carried out throughout

the convention. Noted speakers were: Miss Ruth Ellen Reihm, Smyrna, Delaware, national recording secretary, serving as the national representative to the Indiana convention; Mrs. Melanie Menderson, Cincinnati, 0., national parliamentarian; Charles E. Cullen, Charlotte, North Carolina, executive of two business firms, speaker at the banquet; Mrs. Marie Bowden, Leesburg, Florida, member of the membership committee, international federation of Business and Professional Women’s clubs, speaker at the breakfast and Mrs. VeoTada Kerr, Indianapolis, lecturer or personal development. Mrs. Howard served as a member of the election committee for the second consecutive year. District number 5 is honored by having Miss Virginia Rowland, a member of the Bluffton Business and Professional Women’s club, elected to serve as state first vice president for 1963-64. Other officers elected were: Mabel Kidwell, Brazil, president; Ruth Shanks, Plymouth, second vice president; Flossie Becknell, Evansville, third vice president; Kathleen Black, Indianapolis, recording secretary: Emily Martin, Lafayette, corresponding secretary, and Naomi Helwig, Seymour, treasurer. Marie Carlton, Franklin, servec the state federation as executive secretary. Approximately 1100 members of the Business and Professional clubs attended the convention. The fourteen districts in the state have a total membership of 10,007. 'Die membership of the 145 clubs in the state ranges from 10 to 444. ’Die Decatur club has a membership of 56. CLOSING MEETING HELD BY XI ALPHA XI The Xi Alpha Xi chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Mrs. A. J. Reichart in Fort Wayne for the closing meeting of the sorority year. DECATUR WOMAN’S CLUB ENJOYS DRAMATIST Monday evening the Decatur Woman’s club enjoyed a very interesting and delightful talk given by Mrs. Mary Jane Zellers, Dramatist. Mrs. Zelers based her talkon the theme, “It’s a Woman’s World.” During the talk she dramatist. Mrs. Zellers based her talkwomen. The first women was a, warm, winsome and very wise woman who compared her life to. a large magnolia tree. The second'’ was a gentle understanding Quaker woman named Elissa who faced a problem in her family with the understanding that only a woman could possess. The third dramatized was a hilarious skit about a woman attending her first baseball game. Mrs. Zelers completed her talk with a very touching rendition of Elizabeth Browning’s “Love Sonnet.” During the busmess meeting it was announced that the following people had a perfect attendance record for the 1962-63 club year: Literature department, Mrs. Elbert Smith; Dramatic department, Mrs. Brecht, Mrs. Gerald Durkin; Music department, Mrs. Wm. Feller, Mrs. Dan Freeby, Mrs. Jethro Sprunger, Mrs. Smith Snively, Mrs. Richard Linn; Civic department, Mrs. John Baumann, Mrs. Amos Ketchum, Mrs. Nathan Nelson, Mrs. Delton Passwater, Mrs. Clarence Smith, Mrs. Frank Lynch, and Mrs. Ralph Smith. Births At the Adams county memorial hospital: David and Rita Mendez Vargas of 705 North 10th Street, Dec a tur, became the parents of a baby boy, weighing 6 pounds, at 3:08 p.m. Tuseday. A baby boy weighing 7 pounds was born to Perry and Judy Wagner Miller of route 2, Geneva, at 7:18 p.m. Tuesday. Charles and Jean Kable Henkenius of 506 Studebaker Street, Decatur, are the parents of a 7 pound 10 ounce baby girl born at 1:40 a.m. today. A 7 pound 9 ounce baby boy was bom to Wilber and Elaine Counterman Lough of route 4,«Decatur, at 9:17 a.m. today. The Pythian Sisters Temple met at the Moose Home with Mrs. Francis Howard presiding. The Needle club met after the Temple with Mrs. Wilfred Plasterer in charge of this meeting. Roll call was answered by 14 members. A delicious luncheon was served. Truck Driver Hurt In Accident Today Dale Earl Frauhiger, 21, route 4, Bluffton, suffered multiple cuts to his arms, chest and legs, when he lost control of his truck on county road SVz at 10:30 a. m. today, onehalf mile east of Bobo. Frauhiger was operating the truck in an easterly direction, when something broke in the steering mechanism, causing the truck to go out of control. T n e vehicle traveled 183 feet and rolled over on its side. Frauhiger was taken to the local hospital where he is being treated. The 1955 model one and one-half ton truck received an estimated $3,500 damages. Deputy sheriff Harold August investigated. Four fence posts and 80 feet of fence on the property of Mrs. Albert Burk, route 5, Decatur, were torn down, an estimated S3O damage. Two drivers were arrested after an accident at 11:15 a. m. on U. S. 27, at the intersection of state road 124. Barbara Rose Nussbaum, 33, route 1, Monroe, was eastbound on 124 and had stopped for the stop sign. She pulled onto 27, however, in the path of a southbound car driven by Oscar Jones, 34, Fort Wayne. She was cited for failure to yield the right of way, while Jones was arrested for failure to have a valid operator's license, Damages were listed at S3OO to the Nussbaum vehicle and SIOO to the Jones car, vestigated. Second St., heading north and collided with the northbound Mcßride car. Vehicles driven by Frederick L. Lautzenhiser ,26. route 2. Decatur, and Richard Lewis Elzey. 27, route 3, Decatur, were involved in a mishap at 11:45 a m. Tuesday. Lautzenhiser was backing from a parking space and his vehicle hit the Elzey auto which was pulling from an alley, heading south, at 236 W. Monroe St. A car owned by Edgar Herman Hockmeyer, 50, route 2, Decatur, suffered an estimated SIOO damage when struck by a car while parked at 203 N. 12th St. Tuesday at 3:22 p.m. A car driven by Peggy Ann Dick, route 4, Decatur, had backed from a driveway across the street, and backed into the left side of the Hockemeyer car, which was on the east side of the street, facing north.
