Sermon, “Our Lord in Heaven.” 7:30 Churchmen’s Brotherhood Program, of special interest to parents and youth, featuring the film “Teenage Marriage.” She 1 M3J3ILM IgvSwKpSM International Undone Sunday School Laworn WfflM Worship At Church Lesson for May 26, 1963 Bible Material: Psalms 24; 84; 121; 122; II Chronicles 5 and 6. Devotional Reading: John 4:19-26. WHERE were you at 10:45 A.M. last Sunday? If you were going to church, you were doing something pretty special. You were going to pray and sing and listen to the Word of God. You were going, in short, to worship. People have been • i 'I worshipping God for no one knows B| how many thousand years; but I most of the wort MM ship has not been ■pV/'E done in church. -. jH So if was p rett y JK special after all. ■■ if you are a good Dr- Foreman jun-of-mine Christian, you worship the heavenly Father every day of your life; only about one day in seven do you worship in a church. If you got to church and found it empty, you probably wouldn’t stay. You need some one else to be with you when you worship at church. You can’t worship in church just any time the fancy strikes you. Such worship has to be planned ahead. You don’t dress up for your prayers at home; but most churchgoers even put on special clothes which in the country used to be called “goin-to-meetin’ clothes.” If you were in a plane that landed in a tree, you would do some praying then and there no matter if your clothes were ripped half off you. But you wouldn’t go to church in torn clothes. It’s too special. A testimony So, what where you doing at 10:45? For one thing, church-going is a public testimony. You were saying, without opening your mouth, “I believe in God, I believe in prayer, I believe in Christian fellowship, I believe in the kind of life the church stands * for.” You do not sneak to church (as some of our ancestors had to!), you ride or walk in open daylight, you would not object if some one took your picture. (Would you be willing to be photographed everywhere you go?) The word "church-goer” Is an honorable word, but some people low-rate it, as they shouldn’t. It is quite true, hypocrites go to church. We have seen dogs in church, and idiots. But that does not rub out the fact that most (rs those who are in church are there to worship, and even the dog, the idiot and the hypocrite would not be there if there were no sincere worshippers. Coafasslon Another thing: at, 10:45 last Sunday you were confessing yourself a sinner. Yes sir; yqu didn’t go with a list of your sins in your pocket or pinned to your coat; but you were going to confess your sins. It’s done differently in different churches, but they all do it. Tell me where else in all the world you can find any group of people who publicly admit they are not what they know they ought to be? Most other organiza- - tions love to tell the world how good they are. At worship in church the people say right out loud how bad they are. It may be in a Catholic church where the priest exclaims in Latin, Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa—“My fault, my most grievous fault!” or it may be in a Baptist church where the minister prays, “Thou knowest that we [he means the people sitting there] are sinners and evil in Thy holy sight;’’ or in an Episcopal service where all the kneeling people say together, “We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done . . For bettor living If a man goes to church in the right spirit, if he thinks of what he is doing, if he feels the thrill of knowing he is worshipping not only with the other people he can see around him, but with the millions of others around the world praising God this morning in a thousand languages, and especially if he has felt, ever so faintly, the touch of the Holy Spirit on his heart, then such a worshipper cannot go opt and be quite the same. All the week he will be a better man for having gone to church on Sunday. So at 10:45 next Sunday morning you will be saying without words as you head for church, “I want to be a better person next week than I was this. And I am going to the only place where I can get the help I need —the mercy-seat of God.” .

DO YOU NEED CHRIST? Rev. James R. Meadows In putting this question we have in mind Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of men and not as a moral example. Do you need a Redeemer? You may be one of the hosts of the self-satisfied and might say. “No. I am god enough as I am. I am doing nothing flagrantly wrong. I represent the better element in the community. I am doing the very best that I can.” The trouble is that YOUR best is not good enough. In spite of OUR best efforts our life remains tarinshed with transgressions against God’s holy law. There is no use in picturing God as a weak and indulgent Father who in the kindness of His heart cannot punish sin. We are apt to forget that justice is also a quality of God and that justice demands that transgression of divine, law be followed by the threatened punishment. There is hope for us only if the law be fulfilled and our transgressions of it be atoned for. The law fulfillment and this atonement for our sins have been accomplished pose upon earth. “The Son of Man by Jesus Christ. That was His purhas come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10). Indeed you need Jesus Christ. You need Him more than you need anything else in the world. You need Him in order to have peace heart and a quiet conscience. There is happiness only in Him .Christianity does not mean that we go about our tasks with solemn mien and lead a melancholy life. Only he is truly happy that knows his wrongdoings have been removed by the death of Christ upon the cross of Calvary. Christ said in Luke 9:23: “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross DAILY, and follow Me.” The crosses we have in life such as sickpess, discomforts, loss of loved one, business reverse ’ and the like are nothing a compared to the cross that Jesus bore for us. When we are downcast because of these physical sufferings we have but to turn to the Word of God and read how much Jesus suffered in order that you and I could have two priceless gifts—Eternal Life and the Blessedd Holy Spirit. THIS WEEK’S BIBLE VERSE “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot.”—l Peter 1:18, 19.
