Jackets Lose To Portland By 7-4 Score A four-run fourth inning carried Portland to a 7-4 verdict over the Decatur Yellow Jackets Thursday afternoon at the Panther diamond, handing the Decatur nine their second loss against three wins. The winners had all seven of their runs scored before Decatur could break into the scoring column. Die Panthers scored once in the second inning on a double by Foster and a single by Warnock, and adbed two more tallies in the third frame on a walk, double and single. The winners then iced the win in the fourth, when they scored four times without the benefit of a hit. Starting Decatur hurler Dave Gay walked two batters after one out. Freshman lefthander Sam Blythe relieved him and walked two more, and then three more runs scored as Decatur committed three consecutive errors, their only miscues of the game. memo from Carl A. Braun Z/ i ■ HOW MUCH MONEY IS A WIFE WORTH? Obviously, the value of a wife, mother and homemaker can’t be measured in terms of dollars and cents. But many a husband overlooks the impact that the death of his wife could have on the family’s financial picture. For example, if the wife dies, her husband’s net income is reduced because he loses out on joint income splitting on his tax return. If she has assets, her husband might have to pay inheritance taxes on her estate. Then there are final expenses plus the fact that the husband might have to hire help to care for children and the home. “Wife Insurance” based on New York Life’s low premium Whole Life insurance can help offset these problems. Whole Life’s SIO,OOO minimum face amount can assure adequate cash to cover the husband’s added expenses. And while the wife lives, it builds high cash values available for an emergency... can even pay her - a lifetime income later on. Contact me for details. write . phone ... or visit Carl A. Commodores Are Defeated By New Haven I - ' New Haven scored six times in each of the first two innings and ! went on to defeat the Decatur ' Commodores by a 16-3 score, in ' a game played at New Haven Thursday afternoon. Die always-powerful Bulldog nine was benefited by nine Decatur errors, five of which occurred ( in the first inning when the Allen county club took a commanding lead. A double by shortstop Ed Kohne accounted for the Commodores’ . first run in the third inning. Kohn’e two-base blow scored John Lose, who had singled and advanced to second base on a sacrifice. The Decatur nine, who now owns a 1-3 record this spring, scored its final two runs in the seventh frame when Lose connected for his second single, and scored on a single by Terry Myers. Myers advanced on Kobne’s second single of the day, and he then scored on an error by the Bulldog catcher. After taking a 6-0 lead in the first inning, the Allen county powerhouse added another six runs in the second inning on three walks, a hit batsman, and singles by Fox and Circle. Myers, John Lose and Denny Baker shared hurling chores, for Decatur, with Myers taking the loss. All three were the victims of poor support, as New Haven had only eight base hits, just one more than the Decaturites. The Commodores will be on the road next week, playing at Lincolnview of Ohio Monday afternoon. Commodores AB RHE J.
