CHARLES GABLE HOSTESS TO TRI KAPPA The Alhpa Sigma chapter of Tri Kappa held a meeting in the home of Mrs. Charles Gable, Tuesday evening. A report was made by Mrs. Robert Boch, who had been a delegate, and chairman of the resolutions committee, at the state convention held last week in French Lick. Since the last convention, Tri Kappa, on a state level, has contributed $503,000 to charity and award 57 scholarships in Indiana. The new officers of the local chapter were elected; they are president, Mrs. John Brecht; vice president, Mrs. Simeon Hain; corresponding secretary. Mrs. Roger Schuster; treasurer, Mrs. Leo Seltenright; and recording secretary. Miss Catherine Loshe. Las Vegas Night Is Planned By Soyettes Approximately 150 women employed in-r.the offices of the Decatur Central Soya, the Fort Wayne Central Soya and the local Bag Service, are expected to attend Las Vegas night, sponsored by the Decatur Soyettes Tuesday, May 7. Hie 30 members of the Decatur Soyette club will act as hostesses for Las Vegas Night, which will be held at the Elks lodge, 327 N. Second St., May 7. Registration will begin at 7:15 to 7:30 p. m., with each person registering receiving $5,000 in "play money” to start their “gambling.” The fake gambling tables will open at 7:30 p. m., and the “money” is expected to flow freely. Approves Proposed CIS Waste Control INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — The Indiana Stream Pollution Control Board Tuesday approved final plans and specifications for $6.7 million worth of sewage projects for Albany, Campbellsburg, Dale, Knox. Ridgeville and Terre Haute. The board also approved plans and specifications for treatment of 16.9 million gallons a day of industrial wastes from a new sheet steel mill of the U.S. Steel Corp, at Gary, and proposed industrial wastes control -facilities for CTS of Berne, Inc., and Muncie Plating & Polishing, Inc., and sewage treatment works to serve Schererville Height subdivision in Lake County and the Hart Motel in Allen County. The board gave favorable -consideration to preliminary propoposals for sanitary facilities for Lynn, Indianapolis, Washington Twp. Elementary School in Hendricks County and Orchard Heights Subdivision in Tippecanoe County. It received reports of pollution abatement facilities completions at Commercial Solvents Corp., Terre Haute; New York Central, Elkhart; Colgate-Palmol-ive Co., Jeffersonville; FosterForbes Glass Co., Marion; Bastian Plating Co., Inc., Auburn; Palestine Mill, Palestine, and Ludwig Slaughterhouse, Dunkirk. Hearings regarding the alleged polution of Kent Ditch by the town of Kentland, Carpenter Creek by the town of Remington, and tributaries of Six Mile Creek by the town of Shirley, were set for May. Jobless Pay Claims Decrease In State INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — Openings for additional outdoor work dropped Indiana’s unemployment insurance claims total to 36,305 last week from the previous week’s total of 39,104. Director Lewis F. New Superintendent Os Women's Prison INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — Mrs. Jessie Margaret Garrett, 58, Indianapolis, will become the new superintendent of the Indiana Women’s Prison May 1. Governor Welsh made the announcement late Tuesday. She succeeds Mrs. Gettrude Davis, who resigned several weeks ago to become head of a Colorado woman’s prison. Mrs. Garrett, now secretary for the Indiana Flood Control and Water Resources Commission, formerly was administrative assistant and business administrator at the women's prison. She served under three different superintedents during the period from 1945 to 1954 and says "I know my way around there. I like this type of work very much.” "I do not plan any immediate changes because I have been away from the prison since 1955 and do not know how it has been run,” she said. Mrs. Garrett worked as secretary to the Indiana Board of Medical Registration in 1955 then began work for the flood control group.
