Rockefeller Is Possible Entry For Primary By EUGENE J. CADOU United Press International INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — New York Gov. Nelson Rockefeller may enter the 1964 Indiana Republican presidential preference primary, according to one of his pioneer backers, State Sen. Roy Conrad of Monticello. Conrad said it is many months too early for a definite decision but that Rockefeller may be Tuning in the Hoosier primary a year from nqw. There is some possibility that another entrant may be Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater, according to the politicos. In tact, a Hoosier group of the “Draft Goldwater for President’’ national organization now is being formed with Leslie Duvall, young Indianapolis lawyer, in charge. He is the son of the late Indianapolis Mayor John L. Duvall. One of the national co-chairmen of the Goldwater movement is Mrs. lone Harrington, Chesterton, Hoosier GOP national committeeman. Former Sen. William E. Jenner supported Goldwater in 1960 at the GOP national convention which nominated Richard MNixon. Conservatives Factor A number of the Hoosier conservatives who backed Robert A. Taft of the last ditch in 1952 against President Eisenhower probably will be in the Goldwater camp, if he decides to run. But other party chiefs, looking for a winner, are much less hostile to Rockefeller than they were in 1959 and 1960. Reports have circulated that H. Dale Brown. GOP state chairman, and Lt. Gov. Richard 0. Ristine are becoming favorable to the New Yorker. Former Sen. Homer E. Capehart and Conrad were active for Goldwater in 1959 and 1960. Conrad has visited Rockefeller in New York a number of times and plans to go there again soon. He was scheduled to be a guest at Rockefeller's mansion in Venezuela last week but was forced to return to Indianapolis to resume his duties as Senate GOP caucus chairman. It is worth recalling that Rep. Charles A. Halleck, Rensselaer, House Republican floor leader, traveled to Nebraska to introduce Rockefeller in glowing words at a recent party rally. Divorce Discussed Some party leaders are perturbed about the possible political effect of Rockefeller's divorce and the possibility be may marry a divorcee who formerly worked for him.

Goldwater’s wife is an erstwhile Hoosier, the former Miss Margaret Johnson of Muncie. However, political observers have pointed out that a plethora of wives apparently hasn’t damaged the political life of California Rep. Jimmy Roosevelt, who has been reelected a number of times despite his tangled marital torySticky Iron A sticky iron can be made to operate smoothly again if it is run back and forth while hot over a paper on which salt has been sprinkled. Power Mower If the one-cylinder engine powering your lawnmower has a good spark and gool fuel, yet refuses to start, try turning the spark plug 90 degrees from its present position. and the chances are your motor will start and idle beautifully. Here’s the theory: The spark plug happened to be turned so that the end of the ground electrode attached to the spark plug shell faced the intake valve. When fuel came in on the intake stroke, the spark plug was shielded by the rear of the ground electrode.

Pres. Kennedy Is Not Likely To Seek Purge By LYLE C. WILSON United Press International President Kennedy is not likely to become-publicly involved in any effort to drive conservative southern Democrats out of Congress unless the conservative Southerners offend him in some way he cannot forgive. Franklin Df Roosevelt was offended that way 25 years ago when he undertook to purge a dozen or so senators and congressmen in the 1938 Democratic primaries. FDR at first had upward of a dozen Democrats on his 1938 blacklist. But as he moved against them the going became very tough, indeed. Actually and openly, FDR finally opposed? only four Democrats in the party primaries, They were Rep. John J. O’Connor of New York, Sen. Millard fydings of Maryland, Sen- Walter George of Georgia and Sen. Ellison D. (Cotton Ed) Smith of South Carolina. Licked Only One FDR was able to lick O’Connor, the chairman of the House Rules Committee, who opposed FDR’s New Deal as Chairman Howard W. Smith, D-Va., now opposes the Kennedy New Frontier. But Tydings, Smith and George were reelected. Roosevelt undertook that party purge in the heat of anger at Senate Democrats who had combined to defeat his hill to reorganize the Supreme Court. That was the most painful legislative licking FDR ever had to endure. Roosevelt was angry with Democrats who opposed him on other issues. But it was the Supreme Court battle that aroused him to a point where he would dare put his prestige and the party’s integrity on the line by intervening in Democratic primaries. Kennedy is under no such pressure of anger at this time. There have been repeated reports that usually unidentified Democrats with vaguely persuasive White House and National Committee connections are planning to oppose some conservative Democrats in the 1938 primaries. Atty Gen. Robert F. Kennedy has been named as an advocate of this strategy. No Direct JFK Link President Kennedy has not been linked with it directly, although it is ridiculous to imply that any
such major strategy could be undertaken by responsible Democrats without the President’s knowledge and consent. Win or lose, the President will be considered to have been responsible for any purge effort. Republicans will welcome any administration move to defeat conservative Democrats in southern Democratic primaries. Tie Republican party is now making some headway in the South- Its appeal is to conservatives. If conservative Southerners are driven out of the Democratic party in their home states they will likely become Republicans. FDR was maneuvering to have himself drafted for a third term as well as maneuvering to knock

off some members of Congress whom he didn't like. Kennedy isn't that mad at anybody and he does not need to maneuver for his own renomination. Bleaching Sheets An easy, but effective, way to bleach sheets is to stretch them on the line and each time the sun dries them turn the hose on them. This will save the trouble of taking them down each time to wet them. Steam Iron To dean a corroded steam iron, fill it with vinegar, and let it get very hot. Then pour out the vinegar, and use distilled water only to keep the iron in good condition.
