Sydney E. Hawkins claimed as his bride Modjeska Eileen Lehman in a ceremony at 2 p.m., Sunday, in the First Mennonite church, Berne. The church was decorated with candelabra and palms. Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Lehman, Berne, are the parents of the bride; and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Hawkins, 1033 Russell St. The Rev. Huston Bever, Jr., from the Church of Goa, Decatur, assisted by the Rev. Gordon Neuenschwander, performed the doublering ceremony. Pre-nuptial music was played by Mrs. Lelan Neuen, organist, who played “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” during the ceremony. Volcalist Leland Neuen sang “Because” and Mrs. Julia Beitler sang “God Gave Me You.” A duet was sung by Neuen and Mrs. Beitler, “O, Perfect Love, Human Thought Transcending.” The bride appeared on the arm of her father in a gown of chantilly type lace and nylon sheer over taffeta. The basque bodice was fashioned with a Sabrina neckline, jeweled with sequins and pearls, and long sleeves tapered to points over the wrists. The very bouffant -skirt was enhanced with lace appliques and self-fabric bows. The chapeltrain was topped with a large ' double-bow bustle with streamers. The bride wore a single strand of pearls, a gift of the groom. A double-lace crown held her bouffant veil of pure silk illusion and she carried a bouquet of golden rapture roses, centered with a corsage of snowstorm roses.

Miss Virginia Ann Lehman was her sister’s maid of honor, while Mrs. Roger Hawkins, cousin of the bride, was the bridesmaid. The attendants wore street-length gowns of aqua and turquoise nylon sheer over taffeta, styled with fitted bodices, scoop necklines, and cap sleeves; the gathered skirts featured a pleated cummerbund enhanced with a floating panel. Their headpieces, matching their dresses, were of hairbraid and a cabbage rose with illusion bouffant veils. They carried bouquets of sunburst and blizzard pompons. Renee Howell, cousin of the bride, was flower girl, wearing an aqua and turquoise nylon sheer dress with floral headpiece, and carrying a basket of flowers. A cousin of the groom, Ronnie Man. ley, was ring bearer. Paul McKinney, groom’s cousin, served as best man and Rodney Schwartz, Terry McDaniel, Mike Leyse and Max Hawkins, all cousins of the groom, were ushers. Another cousin of the groom, Roger Hawkins, was groomsman. The bride’s mother chose a navy blue crepe dress with navy blue and white accessories, and wore a corsage of golden rapture roses. .Society, FAREWELL PARTY FOR JULIA TERVEER Saturday, the 5-A classmates from St. Joseph’s school gave a farewell party for Miss Julia Terveer, who is moving to California. The party was held in the home of Miss Eileen Eichhorn, 275 Park Place. Games were played and prizes awarded to Alice Becker, Sandra Baker and Janice Baker. Miss Daisy Strahm was gift registrar. For her wedding trip, the bride wore a light blue, three-piece, knit suit with white accessories and the cot sage from her bridal bouauet. The new Mrs. Hawkins was graduated from Berne-French high school and is employed by the C. T. S. of Berne, Inc. The groom, who was graduated from Decatur high school, is employed by the Moser Motors, Inc., of Berne. The couple will make their home on route 1, Berne, after April 27.

with “A good spring tonic.” Mrs. Carl Rash gave the evening’s devotions from Matthew 6:25, and read “The Legend of the Dogwood.” Each member indicated on a paper lessons she would perfer for next year on "House and surroundings.” Mrs. Ervin Stucky gave the health and safety lesson on keeping the house fall-free. She stressed that many deaths and serious injuries result from house falls. Mrs. Ed Pierce gave the evening lesson on "Planning your garden when the snow blows.” The club achievement score card was read by Mrs. Leonard Johnston, presient. During the business session, flavorings and pepper were passed out to members to sell. The door prize was awarded to Mrs. Frona Floyd. During the spcial hour, refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Carl Rash. Patty and Carol Reinhart were guests. PYTHIAN SISTERS NEEDLE CLUB MEETS Monday, at 7:30 p.m., the Pythian Sisters Temple met the Moose home. Mrs. Cecil Gause presided at the Temple, and the Needle club met after the Temple meeting. Mrs. Wilfred Plasterer, Needle club president, presided at this meeting; 22 members answered roll call. A delicious luncheon was served at decorated tables by Mrs. C. L. August and Miss Grace Lichtensteiger. Games were played and prizes awarded to the winners; the door prize was won by Mrs. Hershel Nash, while Mrs. Fred Ashbaucher received the cover prize. The next meeting will be May 13; the hostesses will be Mrs. Lawrence Roop and Mrs. Adam Kunowich.

Girl Scouts TROOP 384 Brownie troop 384 met after school in Mrs. Detter’s room in Northwest school. We are learning the Girl Scout promise and laws, so we can “fly up” in May. Glove Compartment Os Auto Ransacked Keith Schnepp, route 5, Decatur, reported to the city police Sunday morning that while he was attending church, the glove compartment of his auto was ransacked. Nothing could be found missing, however, as the city police investigated. The auto was parked at 327 Winchester street when the incident occurred.
