Every Length Right For Gloving Hands Short, bloused shirt sleeves; lang, tapered sleeves; wide, flaring sleeves and no sleeves at all are some of the fashions spring gloves must be prepared to handle. Result is a variety of glove lengths and, even more important, a variety of styles. Often the character of the glove, rather than the length, determines what glove should be worn. Generally, six and four-button lengths appear with cuffed and tapered sleeves, eight-and ten-

button types with short and nosleeve styles. But newer and even more fashionable are such ideas as the wrist-length shortie with the sleveless or shortsleeved fashion. Refreshing accompaniment for the short, tight sleeve is a widecuffed, long glove, pulled on over the sleeve. Understated colors, including a number of neutrals, glove the hand for spring. Amber to bisque tones, rich browns, subtle offgreens and pinks make news. In any case, hues are at hand to complement each and every costume.

Flowers Accent Season's Outfits It could be raining violets, the way posies are popping up on all the prettiest spring fashions, as top designers pick fresh flowers for accents on everything from oatmeal tweeds to bright chiffons. There are some tips to remember when choosing colorful floral trims to wear or to give. According to the members of Florists’ Telegraph Delivery, flowers should always be worn as they grow, with stems down. Florists say that the colors of blooms should be coordinated with clothing, just like any fine fashion accessory. Yellow is popular this spring, and posy trims can be echoes of lemon to almost offwhite tones. Good for this are carnations, roses or glamellias (that’s the florists’ glamorous treatment of the gladiolus). To accompany creamy pinks there are orange flowers for the daring, or deep burgundy reds for a more conservative choice. Gray gets a lift with blue blossoms combined with white —cornflowers and daisies, for example. When wiring a long-distance gift of flowers to wear, leave the flower slection up to the florist. He’ll choose something neutral in mums, carnations or orchids which will go with virtually any outfit it might adorn. Florists will also wire floral wreaths to perch in the hair, wristlets of blooms, or old-fashioned nosegays. In choosing flowers for a print dress, select blossoms in the predominant color of the fabric. If the pattern is floral, the florist may even be able to match the bloom as well as the color. On the scale from casual to dressy, florists say that full, open blooms with lots of tecture, such as chrysanthemums or pompons, tend to be less formal than their smoother - petaled sisters, such as camellias, gardenias and orchids. Flowers can be pinned almost anywhere. Try tucking a pouf of carnaitons into the pocket of a plain wool dress: pin a cluster of garnet roses dead center on the neckline of a pale crepe; or, with the new bias-cut clothes, experiment with an elegant “duchess rose” on the hipline or punctuating the “V” dip in the neckline. Fasten flowers to straw bonnets, or clip them on fabric handbags.
Gazanias dote on drought and! sun, bloom in bright colors all summer and need very little: care. You needn’t go to South Africa to see the native flowers. They’re available to you in the seed catalogs. AR you need do la grow them. It may be that their namew as well as their looks are strange to you. This is a good year to get acquainted. So, meet: cacalia, torenia, dimorphotheca and gazania —a few of the African natives that you can raise easily from seeds. Cacalia’s common name la tassel flower for the upsidedown tassels it bears. This annual is as easy to grow as scattering the seeds on the . ground in a sunny place. They’H sprout in two weeks, seedlings should be thinned for largest plants and flowers, and blooms continue all summer. Colors are mostly scarlet, gold or yellow. Torenia is called Wish bone flower for the marking of royal purple against the paler blue petals. Flower throats are gold, making a lovely contrast with the petal colors. Plants are eompaet, grow best in light shade and need plenty of water. Flowers form all summer and leaves turn red-dish-purple in fan. In the north torenia seeds may be started indoors or in a special small bed outdoors as soon as the soil warms. In Florida and places with similar climates, torenias win self-sow and may be used instead of pansies. Dimorphotheca’s common names are African daisy and Cape - marigold. In California and other mild-climate states, this annual makes a fine winter plant from seeds sown in fall. , In the colder states seeds are spring-sown outdoors in a sunny place where they are to stay. Beautiful white daisies with black centers edged violet are the results of planting the variety called Glistening White. Gold Daisy also has a dark center and the hybrids come with blooms of sulphur yellow, creamy white, apricot, oranges and, deep yellows all with dark! centers. Gazanias are good aa pot! plants as well as in the border, i They thrive in drought and sun! and furnish daisy-shaped flow-' ers in bright colors all summer. A six - inch - high variety la* called longiscapa and has or-t ange flowers on top of woolly leaves. A strain called Coiorama grows fifteen inches high and has blooms of white to yellow, apricot to orange, pink, and combinations of these colors; A very new strain, called Fire Emerald, widens the color range to include bronze-rods and lavender - pinks. Most blooms have an emerald green ring around the center of the flower, which accounts for the name of the strain.
