this spring have a world of ensembles to choose from. The dress-and-jacket returns, while the newer idea of the dress-and-coat is expected to compete strongly for fashion attention. Colors Are Clean and Pale From Mom's world, too, is an array of slim, skimmy shapes. This styling is seen in coats as well as dresses, separates. Though fabrics are, for the most part, vigorously textured, there are surprises in store, in the form of eyelets and -sheers used in smartly-tailored styles. Little girls’ fashions greet, spring in colors that are clear and pale. Leading no-color is white, lighting up dresses, suits and eoats. Pink and yellow vie. for favor, and there are many whitened pastels. Gray and wheat make news as neutrals. COLORING COATS Color never had it so good as it does in spring coats. Women have their choice of pretty pastels, clear mid-brights and flattering dark tones. The white and off-white coat is a fashion favorite for sprinf.

Fashion Pleases Young Tastes

Members of the young set can express their individuality this spring, in fashions that are thoroughly up to the minute, yet so widely varied that every personal preference can be pleased. From high school and college girls to young marrieds, the young fashionables will find junior size styles scaled to fit youthful figures and designed to reflect all the- important silhouettes of the season. Certain fashions, of course, are scheduled to find most enthusiastic acceptance with this lively, busy ybung crowd. Chanel-Look Suit, Separates Favored Chanel-minded suits and separates, for example, are a favorite. Boxy cardigan jackets, white and ice-cream colored suits with braid bindings, and good coordination of hues for suits, linings and blouses highlight the easy, smartly casual look. Suits featuring lightly - fitted, front-shaped jackets with peplum effects and suits with skirts full of flare are plentiful, and expected to be popular, in junior sizes. Juniors can have their choice of suit jacket lengths, from little bolero to seven-eights tunic. The Norfolk jacket with tunneled belt, seen everywhere in spring suits and sportswear, looks especially right for the young set. Other junior suit successes copy sweaters, with pullovers or con-cealed-zipper mock pullovers, and imitate shirts, with casual tops and shirt-cuffed sleeves. Teen Shoes Showing Light, Airy Look

The footprints in the sands of ’ fashions are changing—teen-agers ’ are walking around in light, airy ; leather flats in school and out. Skinny, too, are junior coats, with seaming and shaping that follow the figure. Junior favorite among the lean-look coats may well be the many variations designed along princess lines, widened in the skirt. In at front, out at back is shape for still another easy young coat. “Bathrobes” go out in public this season, in the form of bathrobe eoats slim ad gathered at the waistline by pull-through or elasticized belts. Cape coats, Norfolk belted coats, circular-flared coats, scarf coats make fashion news with young individuality. Stretching Budget Sportswear, always popular with the young set, provides components to create every look of fashion for spring, with budgetstretching possibilities. Nautical notes are struck as the middy pullover, many separates in red. white and blue, and a wealth of fashions borrowed from the boating enthusiasts. Snow drifts of white waft into junior fashions, followed by the pale pastels such as baby blue, soft yellow, delicate pink. White accompanies both navy and black in a variety of plaids, checks, prints galore. Fabrics feature loopy mohairs and fluffy woolens, crisp worsteds, silks, linens, denims.

contrasts. In both dress pumps and casual flats, portholes on vamp and side are part of the teen's “open look” afoot. Open toes are out—banished to squaresville. Flats with wide open spaces at the side or back are always teamed with closed toes—round, tapered or square. in casual footwear—the kind a girl likes to wear when she’s not dating or shopping—brushed leather flats are tops. Brushed split leather gains popularity, because the leather has been "split” or thinned down to make the shoe lighter, more pliable. The brushed leather pixie boot is> another example of an off-
