Now, you can plan your home communications to meet your individual needs, just as you decorate to reflect your own special tastes. Communications Needs The size of a house, its layout and number of people in the family affect the communications needs of a home. For people with large homes for growing families, for example, an internal communications system can save steps, end the need for shouting and bring new dimensions of safe-

regular telephone service. Merely by reaching for the nearest phone, any member of the family can talk with any or all other individuals throughout the house. And best of ail, hands-free answering enables the other party to converse freely without interruption. As an added convenience, you can talk with a caller at the front door from the kitchen, bedroom or wherever there's a phone. This is especially, valuable at night when the door can be answered and, if necessary, help summoned by a phone call without getting out of bed. Emergency Broadcast In case of accident or fire this home interphone system can be used to notify the rest of the family simply by broadcasting the alarm internally by phone. Through two-way communication, replies from the rest of the family assures that the message has been heard. serymen. The costliest mansion surrounded by bare and eroded soil is a depressing sight. By comparison. a four-room house on a beautifully lanscaped plot can provide a lovely setting for more beautiful and gracious living. Natural beauty on the land has no limitations of wealth! Anyone can achieve it. The principal requirement is an appreciation of the land on which the family lives and what it can do for those who treat it kindly by planting and maintaining it. Success in landscaping the property requires, as in everything else, a sound approach. 1. Sit down and figure out what you wish to achieve — outdoor living, armfuls of flowers,
tree-ripened fruits, cool shade, play areas. It may be a combination of all. 2. Start with a plan to achieve what you wish. Where you want your fruits and berries; where the ideal spot is for outdoor living (you may also wish to screen it with shrubs or trees from the neighborhood generally). Shade should be where you most desire it. The foliage of the tree when mature should be betW'een the place where you want shade and the sun. A professional plan by a lanscape nurseryman often is advisable. 3. Plant according to the plan. At the same time, after each plant is placed in the ground, stand off and observe whether you are planting it in exactly the right place. If not, shift it a little until it is most pleasing to the eye. 4. Maintain your plants once they are in the ground. A good soaking with water only when the soil becomes dry is a general rule. Fertilizing and mulching may be needed. Get advice from neighbors, nurserymen, state university extension services. Many pamphlets are available. Read the garden stories in your local newspaper for ideas. Property improvement by landscaping and gardening can be a very rewarding experience. Landscaping can also be a sound investment, the trees and shrubs growing in value from year to year, increasing the value of the property up to 25 per cent or more. HANDY TRICK No need to spill liquids poured into smalled mouthed containers when no funnel is available.. Hold a pencil over mouth of bottle with tip pointed where liquid should go. Pour slowly and steadily. Liquid will follow pencil.

A Kitchen Deck Ups Efficiency A work-corner in the kitchen for correspondence, filing and all sorts of paper-homework is a tremendous contribution to housewifely efficiency. If desk construction is in your new kitchen plans arrange for a panel of pegboard backing. This will serve as a bulletin board, to post grocery lists and specials. A rack for magazines and a cookbook shelf will also be useful. A drawer deep enough to hold a standard office file will quickly organize such household necessities as tax records; two shallower drawers will accommodate paper supplies. WAXING SCHEDULE Waxirig your wood floors four or five times a year will pay off in easy maintenance and the added satisfaction of knowing that your floors are gleamingly beautiful always.
i : 9 ’ J'- I WELL-PLANNED kitchen desk provides conveniently for housewife’s correspondence and other “paper work.” Small enough to slip into one of the drawers is typewriter by Singer.
