IRS3SL»». HERMAN EVERETT, second from right, is just a small dot in this group of more than 35 Oldsmobile dealers and salesmen from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky who flew by chartered plane to Lansing, Mich., Wednesday, for an awards dinner, and then drove back a fleet of new Starfire Oldsmobiles.
hmFTHI HERMAN EVERETT, right, sales and service manager at Zintsmaster Motors, poses beside the Oldsmobile Starfire which he drove back from an awards dinner in Lansing, Mich., Friday. Everett was one of 35 lucky winners in the Indianapolis district sales contest for selling the most Oldsmobiles during a 30-day period. He was flown from Fort. Wayne to Lansing by chartered plane. On arrival they were taken to their quarters, and then toured the forge plant. Wednesday evening they had dinner at the country club with the sales managers of Oldsmobile’s GM division, and Thursday they were taken on a tour of the assembly plant.
Andersen May Give Up Minnesota Fight ST. PAUL, Minn. (UPI) — Republican Gov. Elmer L. Andersen today was reported ready to announce he will give up his bitterly contested governorship to Democratic recount winner Karl Roivaag Rolvaag was busy preparing an inaugural address in his capitol basement “broom closet” office. Andersen said he would announce his intentions at a 2:30 p.m. CST news conference. Legislators said Andersen told them Friday “this is the end of the line.” “There is no point in going on,” Andersen was quoted. Closest State Race If Andersen steps down, it would bring to an end the closest statewide election race in Minnesota history and what a political science expert called “the most comprehensive and most thorough recount ever conducted.” Andersen won a canvass after the Nov. 6 election by 142 votes. But Rolvaag. Democratic-Farm-er-Labor candidate, demanded a recount, A three-judge tribunal ruled Thursday that Rolvaag had been “duly elected” by 91 votes. Rolvaag said the four-month recount battle was “the most historic of all recounts.” Andersen has remained in office under a state law requiring that an incumbent serve until a suc-

cessor qualifies. He has 10 days in which to appeal and Rolvaag can’t take office until he either waives any appeal or the 10-day deadline passes. Ask Andersen to Stay Some Republicans urged Andersen to stay in office long enough to sign the management-backed unemployment compensation bill expected to be pushed through the legislature Monday. Rolvaag had told labor leaders he would veto the bill in its present form if it came across his desk. George Farr, DFL state chairman, said he was happy to hear the report Andersen would step aside and plugged for the inauguration of Rolvaag “at the earliest possible opportunity.” “It would seem to me that if Elmer Andersen were to seek to remain in office solely for the purpose of permitting enactment of any kind of special legislation that this would be a regrettable blot on his record in office,” Farr said. Leaking Fountain Pen After removing the cap from a fountain pen, it sometimes is found that there has been leakage of ink, apparently without cause. Often, examination of the cap will show that the small breather holes are clogged and suction created when the cap is removed pulls ink from the nib. Cleaning the holes with a pipe cleaner or toothpick usually remedies the trouble.
Ribbons Ribbons can be made to look like new if, after laundering, they are dipped into a gum arabic or gum tragacanth solution and stretched to dry over a smooth surface, such as the edge of the bathtub. Bibbons stretched in this manner do not require ironing. Our advertisers are for your HOME TOWN — DECATUR. Patronize them.

Nehru Says Chinese Move In Fresh Troops NEW DELHI (UPI) — Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru said today Red China has moved in fresh troops along the 2,000-tnile border between India and Tibet. He warned the lower house of Parliament that China may be considering “further armed action at a time of its own choosing.” “During the past fortnight or so Chinese notes (to India) have become sharp and provocative, some actually scurrilous,” Nehru said. He told the House that Communist China's Defense Ministry recently issued a statement reserving the right to act “in selfdefense.” The prime minister said he thought the phrase might be used to justify a renewed assault against India. The border between India and China has been in dispute for years. Last fall, Peking launched a sudden “human wave” assault that drove down deep into territory India considers its own. China then proposed that both sides withdraw 12.5 miles from ' the “line of actual control” while both governments tried to negotiate the dispute. New Delhi officially rejected any proposal to leave Chinese troops in control of Indian territory, but a de facto cease-fire has existed ever since. Nehru said the Chinese pulled back 12.5 miles but “their concentration beyond this narrow strip continues unchanged.” Die prime minister called the concentration “heavy.”
