Don’t Forget When you repaint your home this summer, don’t overlook such articles as garbage cans, swings, sand baxes and sheds. If they are not painted, too, they will look shabby and detract from the fresh as paint look of your home. And that goes for fences, too.

Family Near Boston Discovers What a ‘Dream House’ Really Is

What’s a dream house made of? For the A. J. Vellutos, who have a dream of a house in Melrose, Mass., it’s a home of contemporary design — attractive, roomy and all-electric. By specifying an all-electric home, the Vellutos made sure they included generous measures of two dream-house ingredients — convenience and comfort. Mrs. Velluto is particularly pleased with her attractive kitchen equipped with the latest electric appliances. “The built-in double oven in a wonderful idea” she said. “When I entertain, I can do a roast in one oven and a cake or pie in toe other at the same time.” Electric surface cooking units are built into an island counter that also houses the sink, waste disposer, and electric dishwasher. Mrs. Velluto tucks soiled dishes out or sight in her dishwasher as she sues them. In the evening, sne washes a single load that usually takes care of all the day’s dishes. Another time saver is the large electric refrigerator-freezer built into one wall. Its generous capacity allows Mrs. Velluto to cut

down on shopping trips while still having an ample supply of both fresh and frozen foods. In addition to their major kitchen appliancs, the Vellutos have an electric incinerator, an electric washer and dryer, an 80-gallon quick-recovery water heater, and an inter-com system coupled with a radio. “We feel there’s nothing like electric heat for comfort and convenience. It really is draftfree, says Mrs. Velluto. “Also, I like to keep my house neat and clean, and electric heat certainly helps because there’s no smoke or soot at all.” The Vellutos also like the individual thermostats. “We had just the right degree of heat in each room last winter,” Mrs. Velluto explains.

Bright Door One way of giving individuality to your development home is to paint the door’in a bright color that contracts pleasantly with the color used for the body or trim of your home. In this way it will have character of its own that sets it apart from its idential neighbors but, at the same time, does not make it stand out like the proverbial sore thumb. Choose an exterior enamel or trim paint for longer wear and color life. Don’t Tamper You may remember how dad used to add a bit of oil or turpentine to the house paint when you were a youngster. But don’t you do that without first reading the label on the paint can. Modern paints are delicately balanced chemical compounds and should not be tampered with by adding anything unless the instructions say so.

Compartment Type Bathroom Reduces Traffic Congestion During Family Rush Hours If a “bathroom bottleneck” is ~———

tying-up morning traffic in your home, try reducing the confusion by putting the facilities in separate compartments so the room can be shared. That’s the advice of Ralph Sherwin, chief designer of Libby-Owen-Ford Glass Company who points out that wnen families do not have as many bathrooms as they need, compartmenting can pay for itself in time-saving convenience. One of the common trouble areas is an older home which was not built for today’s larger families and consequently many times does not have a second bath. Yet as the designer suggested, often a second bath is not necessary if the separated so each could be used facilities in the single bath are privately at the same time. “THE BATHROOMS of older homes are generally spacious enough,” Mr. Sherwin said, ‘‘but the abundance of room te nullified by the lack of separation of the bath, sipk and toilet area, and the inadequate storage space.” There should be plenty of room for towels, washcloths and other dry goods in conveniently located cabinets as well as places for everyday items such as first aid supplies and the usual assortment of bottles and tubes. Personal Lower The Roof If you don’t like the dimensions of your house, you can change them visually by using color properly. A house that appears to be too tall for its width can be squared off if you paint the roof darker than the side walls. This will

items can be accomodated in a vanity with each member of the family being assigned his or her own drawer. Two wash bowls in the vanity will double its usefulness, while a large medicine cabinet with ' sliding Parallel-O-Plate mirror doors over the wash area will end peering around and over shoulders a? well as adding extra storage space. FORMATION of the compartments is a matter of choosing the method best suited to the room. Sometimes permanent walls are used, though more often a divider of some sort is satisfactory. This can be a decorative screen, possibly made from panels of pattern glass set in a simple grid. Not only will the glass give sufficient privacy, but it will remain impervious to the high humidity of the bathroom. For space economy, storage cabinet dividers come in handy and in some instances even movable dividers that can be shifted about as needed may work out best, especially where only minor remodeling is planned to make use of the utilities in their present location. AS A FINAL TOUCH, Mr. Sherwin suggests a full length mirror on the back of the bathroom door as a grooming aid. make it seem lower. Re-inforce this by painting upper-story shutters or trim in the roes color. On the other hand, if the house looks too squat, paint the roof a light color. In addition to making the house look taller, the light color will reflect sun heat and keep your home cooler.

“When deciding the best way to divide your bathroom there are certain necessities to consider for the sake of efficiency,” Mr. Sherwin said “These include leavin esquipment both inside and out-
