639 Teams Enter In State Tourney INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — The IHSAA said today all 639 teams expected to compete in the 53rd annual Indiana high school basketball tourney have sent their entries. The deadline was 4 p.m. today. Some entries were received this morning to complete the field, 21 less than last year. Consolidations and discontinuance of schools resulted in a smaller field. Pairings for the fbur-week show starting with sectionals Feb. 27 will be made next Wednesday. IHSAA Commissioner Phil Eskew said his telephones have been ringing without letup the past few days, with individual school officials anxious to make sure their entry forms had been received and were in order. Some last-minute entries were expected today, but IHSAA always makes sure—by way of reminders—that nobody misses the boat. Falling to mail the entry on time and thus being disqualified from the four-week grind beginning Feb. 27 is about the worst offense an Indiana school official could commit. He might as well look for another job.
