Wrestlers End Season, Fail In Sectional The Decatur high school wrestling team put the finishing touches on a fine second season Saturday in the Elkhart sectional. Although none of the Decatur squad qualified for the regional next Saturday at Lafayette, the local grapplers copped one second place and three third places. Mark Corral suffered his first and only defeat of the season when he tost a 4-0 decision to Pressler of Elkhart in the championsip round of the 95-pound division. Pressler, a very good 95-pounder, had years more experience than the Decatur lad, which eventually was Corral’s downfall. Corral had defeated Hoffine of Mishawaka in the afternoon, when he pinned his opponent in the final five seconds of the match, enabling him to advance to the championship match. In his first season of wrestling. Corral still finished the season with a most outstanding 14-1 record. Coach Gary Giessler’s crew, who got third place points from Dave Adams, Alan Kalver and Sam Baumann, placed fifth in the meet, totaling 28 team points. Elkhart Winner Elkhart copped its own sectional with 86 points and four regional qualifiers, while Mishawaka placed second with 76 points and three qualifiers. South Bend Washington Clay was third with 70 and two qualifiers, and New Haven fourth, with 59 points and three qualifiers. Penn Twp. finished with 19 points. Adams, defeated by Thomas of Elkhart, the eventual cham pin the 106-pound class, placed third when he defeated Lemely of South Bend by a 6-1 decision in the consolation match. Kalver also suffered the same fate as Adams, tangling with the eventual winner in an afternoon match. Hutchinson of South Bend downed Kalver in the afternoon match and went on to win the title in the 115-pound clas. Kalver placed third when he copped a 5-2 decision from Charleston of New Haven in the evening’s consolation match. Baumann Third Baumann also came through with a fine effort to place third to the

Cincinnati's Win Streak Is Still Alive It’s reached a point where you can’t pick an individual star on the University of Cincinnati basketball team any more — they’re all chipping in to keep the topranked Bearcats* undefeated streak alive. In the past, there was Jack Twyman. Then Oscar Robertson and later Paul Hogue. Now the laurels are spread among Tony Yates, Ron Bonham, George Wilson and Tom Thacker. Cincinnati won its 19th straight this season by beating stubborn Bradley, 65-61, Saturday night for an 8-0 lead in the Missouri Valley Conference race. A victory against Wichita Saturday would virtually wrap up the Bearcats’ sixth straight league title. Yates, voted Cincinnati’s best defensive player last season, picked off a key rebound and added two free throws in the waning seconds of the Bradley game that took the pressure off the Cats after they had come from behind four times in the second half. Bonham, the nation’s free throw leader, sank five of six foul shots and scored the clinching basket. Wilson, 18th leading basket-maker in the country, added two clutch field goals, and Thacker led the Cincinnati attack with 18 points, including the go-ahead points with about six minutes remaining. Georgia Tech was the only team among the top-10 rated schools to lose in Saturday’s action. The Engineers bowed to Louisiana State, 58-54. Duke edged North Carolina State, 56-55; Illinois beat Michigan State, 91-86; Arizona State trounced neighboring Arizona, 7364; Colorado topped Kansas, 6252; Stanford defeated UCLA, 8678; Mississippi State won a close one from Tennessee, 63-59, and Oregon State romped over Portland, 66-51.
