Miss Marilyn Sue Murphy and Robert Joseph Meyer will be married May 18 in the St. Mary’s Catholic church. Announcement of the engagement and wedding plans has been made by the parents of the bride-elect, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murphy of 1228 West Monroe St. Miss Murphy is a graduate of Decatur Catholic high school and is employed by the city of Decatur. Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard T. Meyer, route 4, Decatur, was graduated from Decatur Catholic high school and is employed by the D. &T. Standard service.

The meeting was opened with devotions, read by Mrs. Dorothy Beeler. Ira Smith presented the entertainment for the evening. Ira is a pantomimist and calls his act ”Your-Mime.” Everyone thoroughly enjoyed his mastery of this silent art. Charades were played and a dessert of ice cream and resettes was served. Betty Reed and Ruth Wickliffe were in charge of this month’s Soyettes’ -meeting. Next month Gladys Keller will be chairman of the meeting to be held March 5. TO ATTEND PSI IOTA XI MID-YEAR CONVENTION Saturday, Mrs. Fred Isch and Mrs. Ned Knape will be the delegates from Alpha Delta, the local chapter of Psi lota Xi, to the national convention of the sorority in Indianapolis. At the beginning of each year since 1919, members of Psi lota Xi sorority have met in Indianapolis for the mid-year convention. From the original attendance of 35 members, who provided a $175 scholarship, the philanthropic, cultural, and social activities of the sorority have grown to attract 1,500 members from 104 chapters in five states. The sorority’s primary interest is in the field of speech and hearing therapy. Scholarships in this field are awarded each year in the amount of $5,661 by the national fund alone, and $2,000 to the Indianapolis speech and hearing kindergarten. Many chapters provide additional scholarships and equipment for speech and hearing therapy in their own communities. The Decatur chapter co-sponsors, with the Crippled Children’s society, a speech and hearing clinic in Decatur. Psi lota Xi has supported the efforts of the Hoosier Art salon for 22 years as a national project. Each year the sorority purchases three paintings, a jury prize of distinction, and five patron memberships. The local group won

Thursday evening in the church dining room for their first meeting of the new year with a ham, beans and corn bread supper. The tables were beautifully decorated with Valentine decorations. Following the supper, Mrs. Lloyd Ahr, the class president, conducted the business meeting. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were heard. Mrs. Willard Mcßride was in charge of the devotions. She read from Psalm 119 and closed with prayer. During the social hour, the members were entertained with a game called, “Tit Tat Truth.” The committee members were Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Hetrick, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Mcßride, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lister, Mrs. Doris Doan, Mrs. Kathryn Helm and Mrs. Orval Foor. EVERREADY SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS MEETS The Everready Sunday school class of the Methodist church met Thursday evening in the church lounge with 13 members present. Hvmn singing opened the meeting, followed by devotions by Mrs. Virgil Krick, who talked on "Bits of Philosophy." The scripture lesson was the 11th chapter, 33rd verse of Romans. Mrs. Krick talked on “Words of wisdom, faith patience, enthusiasm, prayer, thanks and peace.” She read a prayer by St. Francis. The program chairman, Mrs. Frank Crist, read President Kennedy’s prayer and the message given when he spoke at the annual prayer breakfast. Mrs. Crist also read the “Art of Great Living,” by William R. Parker, Ph.D. Mrs. W. P. Robinson conducted the bushiness session. During the social hour, a contest was enjoyed with Mrs. Jesse Niblick winning a prize. The Rev. A. C. Underwood gave a talk and closed the meeting with prayer. The Rev. and Mrs. Underwood were guests of the class. The hostesses, Mrs. Frank Crist, Mrs. N. A. Bixler and Mrs. Arthur Suttles, Sr., served refreshments. SOUTHEAST PTA HEARS SUPERINTENDENT GRABILL The Southeast PTA held its regular meeting Thursday.. The meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance led by Cub Scout Leo Feasel, Jr. The Rev. Crabtree, minister of the Assembly of God church, gave the devotions. The March of Dimes film, “Invitation,” was shown by Steve Everhart, principal of the schgol. ■■ , y Gajl Grabill, superintendent of schools,, spoke on the subject of the local school system and its problems. He stated at the present time there are 74 teachers and administrative heads in the school system. Os these teachers, 45% have master’s degrees and 20% are working on advanced degrees. Curriculum is an ever-changing field. In the future, there will be classes offering foreign languages in the elementary classes. Special reading classes will be offered. At the present time, there are four schools with 1,904 pupils enrolled. He pointed out in the junior high area there is a very definite need for more space. The school board and Grabill are working on these problems, and others that will face them in the future. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served by the hospitality committee. St. Dominic study club will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. Wiliam Lose, Sr. Olive Rebekah lodge will meet Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the Red Men’s hall. Everyone is urged to be present. Thursday, at 7 p.m., the Mt. Pleasant WSCS will meet in the church. Mrs. Everett Singleton will be the hostess. I The Methodist WSCS will meet in the First Methodist church Thursday. Claud Hanby. Mrs. Howe is the former Willmetta Taylor. They have five children, Mrs. Dorthy Morrison, Laotto; William R., Onsted, Mich.; Mrs. Mildred Bellis, Detroit, Mich.: Mrs. Georgia McMinn, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Voda Click, Fort Wayne. They have ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

S. and Geneva basketball game Tuesday. On the menu will be chili, ham and hot dog sandwiches, pie, cake, coffee and milk. It will be served from 5 until lO p.m. The public is invited. Because of her condition, visitors will not be permitted for at least two weeks. Wednesday, Miss Ruth Heiman celebrated her 16th birthday. Miss Heiman, who attends Decatur Catholic high school, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Heiman, 115 South Sixth St. Miss Pamila Strahm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Strahm, 704 Walnut St., celebrated her 16th birthday Wednesday. Mrs. Chas. Bittner Is Injured In Fall Mrs. Charles H. Bittner, route 2, Decatur, was taken to the Adams county hospital shortly before 1 o’clock this afternoon for treatment after a fall near the courthouse. Mrs. Bittner was walking on the sidewalk on the south side of the courthouse, just east of the ramp, when she slipped and fell on a patch of ice. Her jaw was cut and injured when she fell, and xrays were to be taken to determine whether or not the jaw was broken. Airport Operators At Annual Clinic Josephine and A. W. Richardson, local aviatrix, and her husband, attended the Flying Farmers of Prairie Farmer Land’s 17th annual clinic at the Pick Oliver hotel in South Bend last week. The clinic was comprised of two adjoining states, Indiana and Illinois. with a theme of “Upward and Onward Flying Farmers.” — On the first day, the women toured WSTV-TV station and the men toured the Bendix plant. Individual state meetings were held and a combined meeting of the two states was held. Mayor Bruggner of South Bend welcomed the Flying Farmers Saturday, and Cliff Titus, representing Beechcraft Aircraft of Wichita, Kansas, was the featured speaker at a banquet that evening. The Richardsons, of the Hi-Way Airport, located near U. S. 224 east of Decatur, represented Adams county at the clinic. Temperatures Dip Near Zero In State By United Press International Temperatures dipped near zero in upstate Indiana today and threatened to fall to similar levels throughout the state tonight in a renewal of an historic wintry weather siege. It was 6 above at South Bend and 5 above at Fort Wayne this morning but overnight lows at the <btherpoints were generally 10 to 20 or more degrees warmer. However, the forecast for tonight is 5 to 15 above north, near 10 central and 8 to 17 south. Furthermore, forecasters took a closer look into the crystal ball for the next five days and predicted temperatures averaging around 10 degrees below normal central and south and 5 to 8 below normal north. Little nrecipitaiion is expected into the middle of rext week, but a few snow flurries were forecast for today with occasional light snow likely tonight in the southern third of the stete. Highs Thursday ranged from 33 at Fort Wayne to 42 at Evansville and 46 at Louisville. Overnight lows included 15 at Lafayette, 14 at Indianapolis, 13 at Cincinnati, 20 at Louisville and 29 at Evansville. Highs today and Saturday will range from 18 to 32. Births At the Adams county Memorial hospital: Vincent and Joyce Loshe Faurote, 1045 Russell St., are the parents of a baby boy born Thursday. The baby was born at 3:32 p.m. and weighed 7 pounds and 9 3/4 ounces.
