11 1 ■" 1 Decatur Commodores Lose To Bishop Luers Friday Night,, 66-48

By Bob Shraluka The Bishop Luers Knights rolled to their eighth win of the season Friday night, posting an easy 6648 win over the Decatur Commodores on the Luers court. The Knights grabbed an early lead and steadily built it up until the fourth quarter when they blasted the contest wide open and coasted to the victory. The loss dropped the Commodores under the .500 mark, as they absorbed their seventh loss in 13, games. Luers now stands 8-5 on the seasonThe contest started slowly as neither team could score for nearly two minutes. Ed Kohne finally broke the ice at the 6:14 mark on a rebound effort, giving his team a 2-0 lead. The Knights tied the score at 2-2, before the Commodores scored again to hold a 4-2 lead — their last lead of the contest. Take Over Lead Jim Still’s basket broke a 4-4 tie, and seconds later Still added two free throws and Tim Burns ■ connected on his only basket of the evening, giving the hosts a 10-4 margin. The Commodores whittled one point off that deficit before the end of the period, as the Luers quintet held a 12-7 lead. The Knights began to roll in the second quarter, however, and began increasing their margin. Two charity tosses by Kohne and Larry Hake's bucket cut the Knights' lead to 18-13 at the 4:58 mark, but Tom Blaisin’s threepoint play and John Landgraf's ' jump shot upped the margin quickly to 23-13, which Luers held to the half. 32-22. Move Away The Commodores stayed within 10-12 points of the Knights in the third stanza, until the 5:00 point when Blaising connected on two charity chances and Jim W. Freiburger on one, and Luers moved onto its biggest lead of the contest, 41-26. Ranked second in the Fort Wayne city series race, Luers took a 47-33 advantage into the final quarter, and two buckets by Still and one by Landgraf in the first minute upped the lead to 20 points, 53-33, and the winners coasted in from there. Yellow Jackets Lose To Angola Hornets By 69-63 Score Friday

By Pete Reynolds Deadly accuracy from the free throw line paid big dividends for the Angola Hornets Friday night as they staged a come-from-be-hind 69-63 victory over the Decatur Yellow Jackets at the Decatur gym. It was the 13th loss in 16 starts for the Jackets this season, and their seventh Northeastern Indiana conference setback to go with one loop triumph. Angola has won four of seven NEIC titles. Decatur built up its margin to 16 points, 28-12, with 4:30 to play in the second period, but the Hornets then started buzzing away, and by the half-time intermission had sliced Decatur’s margin to only five, 29-24. Angola worked their deficit down to two points, 43-41, with 2:45 to go in the third period. The last four points in that spurt were free throws, running the Hornets’ record to 17 foul shots without a miss. Butler then missed on the first of two free throws.
