Adams county basketball fans are expecting the game Friday night at Bishop Luers between the Monmouth Eagles and the Berne Bears to be one of the best of the regular season. Naturally, the hopes of most of the fans in the north part of the county are resting on the broad shoulders of the members of the Eagles tsam, recently victorious the 1963 county tourney. Coach Don Elder’s quintette have chalked up an enviable 13 and one record, losing only to the Hoagland Wildcats 57-56 in the third game of the season. They have an 11 game winning streak. Berne, with a little tougher schedule, has a perfect 12-Q record, and will have a slight edge in height. On the other hand, Monmouth has played several times this year on the Bishop Luers floor, and have a well-balanced team, if no outstanding height. Elder is expected to start Don Brown and Bob Brandt and Elgene Bienz at guard positions, Dean Schieferstein at center, and Clarence Scheumann and Dennis Braun at forward. Monmouth principal John McCanaha says his team doesn’t figure on getting beat again this season, but they will have to play as well as they played against the Decatur Catholic Commodores to live up to this expectation, and hope that no team is as game and fighting as the Adams Central team was in the county tourney last week. The game, originally scheduled for Monmouth, was moved to Bishop Luers when it became obvious that a larger seating capacity would be needed than Monmouth has. . — Seldom have two Adams county teams sported such good records, which has whetted the sports appetite of the county fans. Undoubtedly many people will be driving up to Bishop Luers, on the south side of Fort Wayne just off highway 27, to see the game, even though they are not directly interested in either team. So, let’s hope that everyone enjoys a good, clean, close game, with our northern Adams county champs, the Monmouth Eagles, winning another hard-fought victory!

I Modern Etiquette I By Roberta Leo I Q. Is it still considered necessary or proper that a woman speak first when meeting a man on the street? A. No. In fact, it is more usual for the man to smile and give the woman an indication that he has recognized her so that she may then bow to him. This is particularly true in business contacts where it may be hard for a woman to remember all the men she meets during a busy week. Q. If a couple's engagement is to be a long one, is it still proper to publish an announcement of the engagement in the newspaper? A. Quite proper and, in this case, the last line of the notice usually reads, “No date has as yet been set for the wedding.” Q. Is it ever permissible to use the spoon for eating pie, especially when it is a very juicy fruit
pie? * A. Pie is strictly a “fork food," no matter how juicy it is. And it is not even proper to finish the remaining juice with the spoon either.
