Muncie Jumps To Top Spot In Prep Ranks By KURT FREUDENTHAL BUnited Press International INDIANAPOLIS CUPI) — Muncie Central’s unbeaten Bearcats, blessed with height, balance and scoring power, captured- top spot in the United Press International Indiana high school basketball coaches’ ratings today. Coach Ike Tallman’s 11-game winners, who tangle with Anderson in Friday’s “game of the week,” received 14 of 19 firstplace votes frbm the UPI panel of experts for 182 points, 8 short of a perfect score, to take over first place from Michigan City for the first time since early last season. It was the third time this season that the No. 1 spot changed hands. Defending state champ Evansville Bosse was the early leader before being replaced by Michigan City. But the Red Devils slipped into a tie with Anderson for second place after they were upset at Goshen last Friday. Anderson was third last week. Rex Mundi Fourth Evansville Rex Mundi, which romped over Bosse last weekend, climbed from ninth to fourth; South Bend Central from seventh to sixth, and Goshen was the only “Big 10” newcomer, jumping from 12th place to ninth. Columbus, although being the winningest major unbeaten with a 13-game string, slipped from fourth to fifth; Gary Roosevelt from sixth to seventh, and Bosse from fifth to 10th. East Chicago Washington was voted out of the elite—slipping from 10th to 14th place—after its 21-point loss to Michigan City last Saturday. Indianapolis Tech, beaten for the first time at Muncie Central last weekend, was the only power to retain last week’s position —in eighth place. Noblesville was dropped entirely, and Fort Wayne North was the only newcomer in the honor roll. Huntingtan 11th The breakdown.Avith first places and total points: 1. Muncie Central (14)182 2.
