AFL All-Star Game Scheduled Sunday SAN DIEGO, (UP!) — The American Football League’s 2nd anriual All-Star game here Sunday shapes up as a duel similar to the championship contest. The East will bank on the passing of quarterback George Blanda and the receiving of Charlie Hennigan, both of the Houston Oilers, to offset the running of the West’s Abner Haynes and Curtis McClinton, both of Dallas. Blanda ranked second in yardage and touchdown passes this season and Hennigan was second in yardage gained. Blanda’s other receivers for the All-Star tilt will be Jim Colclough of Boston who caught 40 passes for 868 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, tight end Ernie Warlick of Buffalo and halfback Dick Christy of New York who grabbed 62 aeri--1 als this ’ season. Haynes and McClinton ranked second and fifth respectively in league rushing this season and led Dallas to the team leadership in running. McClinton ran for 604 yards despite sitting out the early part of the season. Should the chosen method of attack fail for either team, each is capable of switching. The East has the league's No. 1 ground gainer, Cookie Gilchrist of Buffalo, to keep the defense honest. East coach Frank (Pop) Ivy has experimented in practice this week with a bull elephant backfield featuring two fullbacks, Gilchrist and Charlie Tolar of Houston, each gained more than 1,000 yards on the ground and can provide stout pass protection for Blanda. West field general Len Dawson prefers the ground game but was the most effective passing quarterback in the league when the defense tightened against the runners. Although averaging only 22 throws a game, far below average in the AFL, Dawson led Ihe league in touchdown passes with 29 and completed 61 per cent of his attempts-' F The West won last year’s battle, 47-27, on the arm of Cotton Davidson, then of Dallas, who was named the game’s outstanding player. / . Each member of the winning team will receive S7OO, while each loser will get SSOO. The game will be televised nationally on the American Broadcasting Company network starting at 1 p.m. EST. Hoad, like Laver a former Wimbledon champion, downed Rod, 6-4, 6-2, 8-6, on a rain-soaked i court. Hoad put on the pressure i at the start and Laver never set- ■ tied down, often losing his own ' service.

Coldest Weather Os 1963 Is Predicted By United Press International The coldest weather of 1963, delayed about two days in its arrival in Indiana from the arctic area, appeared to be only hours ■ away today. Snow, rain and freezing drizzle preceded the wintry chill into the state, creating traffic hazards and threatening to add others. Highways in the north and north central portions of Hoosierland were slippery with light snow or freezing rain, and the delicate driving conditions were expected to spread southward as temperatures fell from early morning levels in the low 30s and upper 20s. Forecasts called for hazardous driving conditions late this morning or this afternoon in the central portion and a little later in the southern third of the state. South Bend had six inches of snow on the ground this morning, most of it accumulating since Thursday night. The temperatures prevailing around dawn were expected to be . the highest of the day,„The. mercury was scheduled to drop slowly but steadily to lows” tonight ranging from 8 above north to 12 above central and 18 abqve south. Highs Sunday will range no higher than 15 to 23, and Monday will be continued cold. The drizzle activity will develop into snow by this afternoon and the snow will continue at least as flurries through Sunday morning, forecasters indicated. But clear weather will develop and Monday promises to be sunny. Highs Friday ranged from 29 at South Bend to 51 at Evansville.
