Gave $5,000 to Nixon William E. Millw, Republican national chairman, made headlines this week by demanding that President Kennedy give assurance that the Christmas day pardon of John (Jake the Barber) Factor, former gangland figure who served a full term in the 1940’5, went “straight”, only to face deportation procedures 20 years later when the law was changed, was not pardoned because of Factor’s contributions to the Democratic party. Factor himself said he was shocked at the request. Truth of the matter, he said, was that he had given a total of $22,000 to three Democratic party groups in California, but in 1960 he had contributed $5,000 to Nixon to help him defeat John F. Kennedy, who pardoned him for a crime for which he had already served a sentence! The pardon, after he had served the term, was solely to prevent his deportation. Factor has since become quite a philanthropist, giving millions to various organizations and is now a successful, honest businessman. Editorial Waiter Today Dick D, Heller, Jr.
